Aspectos da alimentação de Genidens genidens (Valenciennes) (Siluriformes, Ariidae) na Baía de Guaratuba, Paraná [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira De Zoologia, 1996
Seasonal variation of the food items of the "bagre-urutu", Genidens genidens is analysed based on monthly samples between September, 1993 and April, 1995 at the Guaratuba Bay, coast of Parana. The stomach contents of 105 fish is analysed by the Occurrence Frequency Method and 41 of these have also been analysed by the Volumetric Method.

Ingestion of plastic fragments by the Guri sea catfish Genidens genidens (Cuvier, 1829) in a subtropical coastal estuarine system

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2019
One of the most recognized anthropogenic impacts in marine environments is solid waste pollution, especially plastic, which can be ingested by fish, thus interfering with their health. In this context, the aim of this study is to describe the ingestion of plastic fragments and to identify the possible effect of this contamination in the condition ...

Can otoliths of Genidens genidens (Cuvier 1829) (Siluriformes: Ariidae) reveal differences in life strategies of males and females?

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 2018
Determination of the growth parameters of a species is an indispensable requirement for understanding its biology and consequently the management of its fishery. In fisheries science, calculations of longevity, mortality rates and stock-assessment models depend on the availability of growth data.

Biologia reprodutiva dos bagres marinhos Genidens genidens (Valenciennes) e Cathorops spixii (Agassiz) (Siluriformes, Ariidae), na Baía de Sepetiba, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira De Zoologia, 1999
The reproductive cycle of the marine catfishes Genidens genidens Valenciennes, 1833 and Cathorops spixii Agassiz, 1839 in the Sepetiba Bay, was assessed by an annual period of sampling from October 1993 to September 1994. The fishes were caught by standardized otter trawl and environmental parameters of temperature, salinity and transparency of water ...

The marine catfish Genidens barbus (Ariidae) fisheries in the state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil: diagnosis and management suggestions [PDF]

open access: yesAnais Da Academia Brasileira De Ciencias, 2020
In this study we analyzed data on fishing landings of Genidens barbus in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, from 2000 to 2014. An estimation of the total production was obtained through the analysis of 781,856 landings, among which 87% were categorized as artisanal and 13% as industrial. The abundance index showed some stability in the period.

Reproductive biology of the marine catfish,Genidens genidens (Siluriformes, Ariidae), in the Jacarepaguá Lagoon system, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 1992
Genidens genidens was sampled at the Jacarepagua Lagoon system (23° S, 43° W), Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, using cast nets and beach seines, to study its reproductive biology. Spawning period extended from October to February, but was more intense from December to January, coinciding with high surface water temperature and low salinity in the area ...

A incubação de ovos e larvas em Genidens genidens (Valenciennes) (Siluriformes, Ariidae) da Baía de Guaratuba, Paraná, Brasil [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira De Zoologia, 1994
At Guaraluba bay, the catfish Genidens genidens shows incubating behavior during the summer months. The larvae are either less or heavier than the eggs, and their stomach analysis confirms the exogenous leeding during incubation. Embryos sizes can increase to 59mm in total lenght and 2,8g in total weight, including the yolksac. It was observed that the

The catfish Genidens genidens (Cuvier, 1829) as a potential sentinel species in Brazilian estuarine waters

Journal of Applied Ichthyology, 2013
Summary Major difficulties in studies monitoring or evaluating general environmental conditions are the intraspecific differences in population descriptors, such as the growth and reproductive period among different localities. The identification of feasible candidates for sentinel species requires basic information on these population parameters ...
