Neonatal vaginouterine prolapse is a rare condition. The problem usually occurs at birth or during the first few days of life. A high percentage of the reported cases have been associated with congenital spinal defects, occult or otherwise. The treatment has been primarily surgical or through the use of a pessary.

Abstract:  Genital prolapse is a rare condition in neonates. It is most commonly associated with neural tube defects such as spina bifida. A preterm, growth restricted neonate with genital prolapse without an associated central nervous system anomaly is reported. The risk factors, management and outcome of neonatal genital prolapse are reviewed.
