A Physicochemical Study of Gentisic Acid
Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1952Potentiometric titration of pure gentisic acid, in aqueous solution, indicates a pK1, corresponding to ionization of the carboxyl group, of 3.1; the pK2, corresponding to ionization of a phenolic group, is 10.2. With molybdophosphotungstate T. S., gentisic acid produces a green color even in acid solution, permitting quantitative determination of the ...

Gentisic acid mitigates gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats
Tissue and Cell, 2023The current investigation was considered to evaluate the beneficial effects of gentisic acid (GA) on gentamicin (GEN)-induced nephrotoxicity in rat kidneys through assessment of oxidative stress, inflammatory cytokines, and histopathological changes. Rats were split into five equal groups. Rats were treated with GA (25, 50, and 100 mg/kg/day, p.o.) for

The enzymic oxidation of gentisic acid
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1959Abstract A cell-free bacterial preparation is described which can oxidatively cleave gentisic acid to yield maleylpyruvic acid. In the presence of GSH this preparation can be made to catalyze the isomerization and hydrolysis of maleylpyruvate to yield fumaric and pyruvic acids. Other sulfhydryl-containing compounds cannot replace reduced glutathione.
