The physiological significance of the glycoproteins (GPs) secreted by the epithelium of ovarian lamellae is discussed in reference to the reproductive biology of G. blacodes. Histochemical procedures for localising and characterising GPs were used to determine the cytoplasmic components of cells of the epithelium that covers the ovarian lamellae of ...

Variation in the diet of Genypterus blacodes(Ophidiidae) around the Falkland Islands
Journal of Fish Biology, 2004The diet change with size, season and area was investigated using the stomachs of 496 kingclip Genypterus blacodes collected around the Falkland Islands (south‐west Atlantic) between August 2001 and September 2002. The key prey species were rockcod Patagonotothen spp., benthic isopods and Patagonian grenadier Macruronus magellanicus. Kingclip <50 cm

Abstract 1. 1. Two polymorphic enzymes—glucosephosphate isomerase and phosphoglucomutase were surveyed in liver samples of Genypterus blacodes . 2. 2. The distribution of alleles revealed two stocks of G. blacodes within the sampling region. The stocks appeared to be separated by a major hydrological barrier. 3. 3.

The degree of parasitism by the parasitic copepod Sphyrion laevigatum on kingclip Genypterus blacodes in the Falkland Islands was investigated. In a sample of 719 kingclip, ranging in size from 35 to 145 cm total length, the prevalence of infection was 49%.

Abstract The economic impact of spiny dogfish in a New Zealand ling longline fishery was assessed for the purpose of guiding early-stage bycatch reduction device (BRD) development. Ling fishermen describe being “dogged out”, events where high dogfish catch per unit effort (CPUE) is assumed to cause low ling CPUE.

Abstract Incidental mortality of seabirds caused by longline fisheries in the south-western Atlantic Ocean has been assessed only with reference to the number of birds caught, not taking into account how the configuration of the gear affects mortality.

Abstract Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) was used to study the effect of frozen storage on the electrophoretic patterns of sarcoplasmic proteins (SAR) extracted from fillets of golden kinglip ( Genypterus blacodes ) species using fresh species as a reference.

Abstract The von Bertalanffy growth function (VBGF) with random effects has been widely used to estimate growth parameters incorporating individual variability of length-at-age. Trajectories of individual growth can be inferred using either mark-recapture or back-calculation of length-at-age from growth marks in hard body parts such as otoliths ...

Abstract Reproductive aspects of the golden ling, Genypterus blacodes, from the southern Chilean fishery are presented. Gonad samples were obtained from commercially caught fish between September 1999 and October 2000. Stage of sexual maturity, gonadosomatic index (GSI), and size of females at 50% maturation determined by logistic methods and by ...

Abstract Two species of ling, Genypterus blacodes (Forster in Bloch & Schneider, 1801) and G. microstomus (Regan, 1903) have been recorded from New Zealand and Australian waters; a third species, G. tigerinus (Klunzinger, 1872) has been recorded from Australia.
