Mitogenic activity and in vitro fertilization inhibitory activity of Genypterus blacodes lectin.

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacobio-Dynamics, 1984
A lectin which we purified from the mucous of Ophidiidae Genypterus blacodes showed a potent mitogenic activity which was comparable to that of concanavalin A (con A). On the other hand, the lectin treated with 2-mercaptoethanol showed an anti-mitogenic activity against con A and lipopolysaccharide (LPS).

A new mitochondrial gene order in the banded cusk-eel Raneya brasiliensis (Actinopterygii, Ophidiiformes) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The complete mitochondrial genome of the banded cusk-eel, Raneya brasilensis (Kaup, 1856), was obtained using next-generation sequencing approaches. The genome sequence was 16,881 bp and exhibited a novel gene order for a vertebrate.

DNA metabarcoding as a marine conservation and management tool: A circumpolar examination of fishery discards in the diet of threatened albatrosses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Almost all of the world's fisheries overlap spatially and temporally with foraging seabirds, with impacts that range from food supplementation (through scavenging behind vessels), to resource competition and incidental mortality. The nature and extent of

Purification and characterization of a fish lectin from the external mucous of Ophidiidae, Genypterus blacodes.

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacobio-Dynamics, 1984
A lectin was isolated from the external mucus of fish, Genypterus blacodes. This is the first lectin isolated from fish. The molecular weight of the lectin, determined by gel filtration, was approximately 32 000, whereas 8 000 was indicated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the presence of 2-mercaptoethanol.

Fishermen´s perceptions of interactions between seabirds and artisanal fisheries in the Chonos archipelago, Chilean Patagonia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Interactions between seabirds and commercial fishing activities have been well documented but little information is available regarding the impacts of more traditional fishing practices on seabird populations.

Cross‐Validation of Diet Determination Methods for Seabird Conservation

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 4, July–August 2025.
This study on the diet of the endangered New Zealand king shag (Leucocarbo carunculatus) compared the frequency of occurrence of fishes detected from the same regurgitated pellets (n = 191) using both hard parts and DNA metabarcoding methodologies.

A shift in the trade? An investigation of the eel trade reveals a likely species switch

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2025.
Details of species identified and their International Union for Conservation of Nature conservation status. * indicates a species listed in Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species Appendix II. Abstract Anguillid eels have seen precipitous declines in their population sizes. Because of these declines, a number are currently designated as

Impacts of Global Warming on Quality of Male Fishes: Evidence From A Meta‐Analysis of Temperature Effects on Sperm Motility Kinematics

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Studies have demonstrated adverse effects of global warming on aquatic ecosystems. However, the effects of increased water temperature (IWT) on fish reproduction are still doubtful in species spawning at low or high temperatures. In this meta‐analysis, we elucidated the effects of global warming on spermatozoa functions, key determinants of ...
