Effect of Moderate Heat on TCE Reductive Dechlorination Rates in Groundwater
Abstract Low‐temperature heating (in the mesophilic range of ~15 to 40 °C) of contaminated aquifers offers the prospect of increasing the rates for biotic and abiotic treatment of volatile organic compounds. Thermal In Situ Sustainable Remediation (TISR®) is one of the approaches available to implement low temperature heating.

The electrically conductive pili ofGeobacter soli [PDF]
AbstractElectrically conductive pili (e-pili) enable electron transport over multiple cell lengths to extracellular environments and play an important role in extracellular electron transfer (EET) ofGeobacterspecies. To date, the studies of e-pili have mainly focused onGeobacter sulfurreducensand the closely relatedGeobacter metallireducensbecause of ...

Anode potential influences the structure and function of anodic electrode and electrolyte-associated microbiomes [PDF]
Three bioelectrochemical systems were operated with set anode potentials of +300 mV, +550 mV and +800 mV vs. Standard Hydrogen Electrode (SHE) to test the hypothesis that anode potential influences microbial diversity and is positively associated with ...

Genome-scale constraint-based modeling of Geobacter metallireducens [PDF]
Geobacter metallireducens was the first organism that can be grown in pure culture to completely oxidize organic compounds with Fe(III) oxide serving as electron acceptor. Geobacter species, including G. sulfurreducens and G. metallireducens, are used for bioremediation and electricity generation from waste organic matter and renewable biomass.

Hydrolysis and Oxidation of Recalcitrant Substrates by Microbial Isolates from Hot Springs
Traditional energy sources pollute the environment. Microbial fuel cells are an alternative energy source that can reduce the environmental burden. Microbial fuel cells also remove recalcitrant wastes from wastewater. This research featured the enzymatic

Microbial Communities of the Providence River [PDF]
The Providence River has been industrialized for over one-hundred years. Industries such as oil storage and metal recycling facilities have left high levels of pollutant metals, including lead (Pb), in the soil and water.

Analysis of nifH-RNA reveals phylotypes related to Geobacter and Cyanobacteria as important functional components of the N2-fixing community depending on depth and agricultural use of soil [PDF]
In this survey, a total of 80 787 reads and 28 171 unique NifH protein sequences were retrieved from soil RNA. This dataset extends our knowledge about the structure and diversity of the functional diazotrophic communities in agricultural soils from ...
