A COGNITIVE APPROACH TO TEACHING A GRADUATE-LEVEL GEOBIA COURSE [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2016
Remote sensing image analysis training occurs both in the classroom and the research lab. Education in the classroom for traditional pixel-based image analysis has been standardized across college curriculums.

Benthic habitat classification using multiscale GEOBIA on orthophoto images of Karimunjawa waters

open access: yesCommunications in Science and Technology, 2021
The scale value is an important part of the segmentation stage which is part of Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA). Selection of scale value can determine the size of the object which affects the results of classification accuracy. In addition to setting

Using Geobia and Data Fusion Approach for Land use and Land Cover Mapping [PDF]

open access: yesQuaestiones Geographicae, 2016
Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) maps play an important role in an environmental modelling, and for many years efforts have been made to improve and streamline the expensive mapping process.

The interaction between land-use change and fire regimes, directly and indirectly, affects the urban avian assemblages of Darwin, Australia. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2023
Using spatial data and historical and recent bird surveys, we investigated the impact of land‐use change and fire on the Darwin bird assemblages. We determined that the interaction between land‐use change and fire regimes directly affected frugivores.

A Novel Invertebrate Predator on an Oceanic Island: Impacts and Invasion Dynamics of <i>Kontikia andersoni</i> on Macquarie Island. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study examines the invasion dynamics of the predatory invertebrate flatworm Kontikia andersoni, and its impacts on the invertebrate communities of sub‐Antarctic Macquarie Island. Our findings indicate that at higher elevations where K. andersoni is present there are significant reductions in invertebrate richness.

Every Bit Hurts: Quantifiable Effects of Low-Level Anthropogenic Disturbance on Movement, Habitat Selection, and Energetics of Blanding's Turtles (<i>Emydoidea blandingii</i>). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study found that moderately low human disturbances, such as roads and nearby development, increased movement and energy expenditure in endangered Blanding's Turtles, potentially reducing their reproductive output. These findings suggest that even low‐level habitat disturbances may threaten population viability. Conservation efforts should focus on

A GEOBIA Methodology for Fragmented Agricultural Landscapes [PDF]

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2015
Very high resolution remotely sensed images are an important tool for monitoring fragmented agricultural landscapes, which allows farmers and policy makers to make better decisions regarding management practices. An object-based methodology is proposed for automatic generation of thematic maps of the available classes in the scene, which combines edge ...
