Experimental study on the damage characteristics of cyclic disturbance and acoustic emission characteristics of different types of sandstones under high stress in deep mines

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The mechanical characteristics of three different types of sandstones under high stress levels are studied. The degree of fragmentation of specimens increases with the applied stress level. The acoustic emission counting of different types of sandstones presents three stages: weakening, stabilizing, and surging.

In situ boron isotopic analyses of tourmalines from Neogene magmatic rocks in the northern and southern margins of Tibet: Evidence for melting of continental crust and sediment recycling

open access: yesSolid Earth Sciences, 2017
Sediment recycling has important impacts on the differentiation of the continental crust, and is considered to mainly occur in arc settings. In collisional orogenic belts, however, sediment recycling processes are comparatively less well understood.

A case study on the stability of a big underground powerhouse cavern cut by an interlayer shear zone in the China Baihetan hydropower plant

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A 9‐year study on the deformation and stability problem of the large deep underground cavern in Baihetan power station was carried out. Abstract The big underground powerhouse cavern of the China Baihetan hydropower plant is 438 m long, 34 m wide, and 88.7 m high.

'Genesis': A takeover from field-responsive matter? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Cairns-Smith (2008) has argued for a pre-Darwinian era, with a simpler basis for life's functioning via primitive "crystal genes" (information transfer, kinetic control on metabolic reactions). At the other extreme, guided by the structural similarity of clusters in early-evolved enzymes to iron-sulphide minerals like greigite, the hydrothermal mound ...

Damage evolution of surrounding sandstone rock under charging–discharging cyclic loading in the natural gas storage of abandoned mines based on the discrete element method

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study established a true triaxial numerical model of rock mass with the discrete element method and explored the crack evolution of surrounding rock of underground roadway gas storage during cyclic loading and unloading and the damage numerical model considering residual deformation.

Study on the variation of the permeability coefficient of soil–rock mixtures in fault zones under different stress states

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A study is carried out on the variation of the permeability coefficient of soil–rock mixtures in fault zones under different stress states. Abstract As the first gold mine discovered at the sea in China and the only coastal gold mine currently mined there, Sanshandao Gold Mine faces unique challenges.
