SHRIMP ion probe zircon geochronology and Sr and Nd isotope geochemistry for southern Longwood Range and Bluff Peninsula intrusive rocks of Southland, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Permian–Jurassic ultramafic to felsic intrusive complexes at Bluff Peninsula and in the southern Longwood Range along the Southland coast represent a series of intraoceanic magmatic arcs with ages spanning a time interval of 110 m.y.

Investigation on hard‐rock breaking performance and auxiliary mechanism of picks assisted with both‐sided high‐pressure water jets

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This paper investigates the high‐pressure water jet‐pick combined rock‐breaking mode (HPC), which employs high‐pressure water jets to precut grooves on both sides of the picks. The rock‐breaking patterns and performance of the HPC method are obtained, and the auxiliary rock‐breaking mechanism of water jet grooving is revealed.

Assessing the ability of the 14C projection-age method to constrain the circulation of the past in a 3-D ocean model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Radiocarbon differences between benthic and planktonic foraminifera (B-P ages) and radiocarbon projection ages are both used to determine changes of the past ocean circulation rate.

Generalized Matsuoka–Nakai criterion considering hydrostatic pressure dependence in the brittle–ductile region

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Three sets of strength data were selected, including hydrostatic pressure independent within the brittle region (HPI‐B), hydrostatic pressure dependent within the brittle region (HPD‐B), and hydrostatic pressure dependent within the brittle–ductile region (HPD‐BD). For HPI type, the failure envelope within the deviatoric plane remains constant.

Insights into the influences of biochar on the fate and transport of pesticides in the soil environment: a critical review

open access: yesBiochar
Pesticide misuse and overuse severely pollute agricultural soils, water, and crop yields, harming people and animals. This situation raises serious concerns about environmental pollution on a global scale. As an eco-friendly material for soil remediation,

Experimental study on burning rate and flame geometry in construction tunnel fires under high geothermal conditions

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract As tunnel construction advances in lengths and depths, the construction of tunnels in high geothermal environments has become increasingly common, raising significant fire risks. In this study, a 1:20 scale model tunnel test platform was constructed to investigate the effects of a high geothermal environment on fire behavior in tunnels during ...

Slip versus dilation tendency parameter space as a tool for prospecting structurally controlled geothermal systems in greenfield: insights from the greater Ruhr region

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study highlights that with the static and time‐dependent evolution of slip versus dilation tendency parameter space, structurally controlled deep geothermal systems can be selected within areas of higher permeability and lower seismic hazard. Abstract Faults play a vital role in the Earth's hydraulic system by facilitating fluid flow when dilating

Elution of Adsorbed n-alkanes by 5Å Molecular Sieve Using Solvent Mixtures for Compound-Specific Hydrogen Isotopic Analysis

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2017
The extraction procedure using solvent mixtures has been used to elute n-alkanes adsorped by 5Å molecular sieve and subsequent stable carbon isotope ratio analysis of individual n-alkanes.
