Application of the Allan Variance to Time Series Analysis in Astrometry and Geodesy: A Review [PDF]
The Allan variance (AVAR) was introduced 50 years ago as a statistical tool for assessing of the frequency standards deviations. For the past decades, AVAR has increasingly being used in geodesy and astrometry to assess the noise characteristics in ...

Abstract Anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions are causing unprecedented changes to the climate. In 2015, at the United Nations (UN) Conference of the Parties in Paris, France, countries agreed to limit the global mean temperature (GMT) increase to 2°C above preindustrial levels, and to pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.

The use of astronomy VLBA campaign MOJAVE for geodesy [PDF]
We investigated the suitability of the astronomical 15 GHz VLBA observing program MOJAVE-5 for estimation of geodetic parameters, such as station coordinates and Earth orientation parameters. We processed contemporary geodetic dual-band RV and CN experiments observed at 2.3 GHz and 8.6 GHz starting on September 2016 through July 2020 as reference ...

Geodesy: Self-rising 2.5D Tiles by Printing along 2D Geodesic Closed Path
Thermoplastic and Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) based 4D printing are rapidly expanding to allow for space- and material-saving 2D printed sheets morphing into 3D shapes when heated.

Repeating Low Frequency Icequakes in the Mont‐Blanc Massif Triggered by Snowfalls
Abstract Deformation mechanisms of glaciers are highly sensitive to basal temperature; the motion of temperate glaciers is dominated by basal slip while cold‐based glaciers deform mainly by internal creep. While basal slip is usually aseismic, unstable slip sometimes occurs and can be detected by seismometers.

Ambiguities in a Problem in Planar Geodesy [PDF]
This is a study of a problem in geodesy with methods from complex algebraic geometry: for a fixed number of measure points and target points at unknown position in the Euclidean plane, we study the problem of determining their relative position when the viewing angles between target points seen from measure points are known. In particular, we determine

Abstract Orogenic wedges are common at convergent plate margins and deform internally to maintain a self‐similar geometry during growth. New structural mapping and thermochronometry data illustrate that the eastern Greater Caucasus mountain range of western Asia undergoes deformation via distinct mechanisms that correspond with contrasting lithologies ...
