Review of Problems Associated with Conventional Geodetic Datums

The Canadian Surveyor, 1974
After discussing the parameters needed to define a horizontal geodetic datum, the paper reviews the development of the major geodetic datums. The problem of determining the interrelationships between the various datums is analyzed and current transformation parameters are presented.

DETERMINATION OF A LOCAL GEODETIC DATUM FROM ASTROGEODESY

Survey Review, 1980
Abstract Several methods of choosing a local geodetic datum, based on astrogeodetic deflections of the vertical, are presented. The results of applying these methods to a test network covering about 200 000 square kilometres in western New South Wales, containing sufficient astronomical stations for reliable astrogeodetic levelling, are computed and ...

A MODEL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN INTEGRATED REGIONAL GEODETIC DATUM

Survey Review, 1993
Abstract A model for the establishment of an integrated geodetic datum covering a region is treated. The integrated geodetic datum is understood here to comprise the geoid, the reference ellipsoid, and the positional coordinates. A comprehensive unified solution model including the three parameters comprising the datum is considered.

Reference Systems, Reference Frames, and the Geodetic Datum

2008
Unambiguous reference systems are a fundamental requirement for accurate and reliable geodetic products. The definition of the reference system, the realization by a reference frame, and the allocation of the geodetic datum have to be strictly coherent.
