Geoheritage, 2021
This article identifies, describes, and characterizes, based on the analysis of 20 geosites, the geological heritage of the Bejar and El Barco massifs. Using 22 characteristics, and weighting coefficients, these geosites were qualitatively and quantitatively assessed (representativeness, accessibility, etc.) and classified into different groups ...

Geodiversity of the Umbria region (central Italy): a GIS–based quantitative index. [PDF]
The measure of natural range related to geological bedrock, landforms and geomorphological processes is the necessary starting point to geodiversity evaluation. Geodiversity plays a strategic role in landscape management. Whereas geotourism and geosites are identified as a driving power for the scientific and economic promotion of an area, the ...

A new Geodiversity Index as a quantitative indicator of abiotic parameters to improve landscape conservation: an Italian case study [PDF]
Landscape is one of the main economic and cultural resources of Italy because of the wide geological and environmental diversity that characterizes this country. The diversity of natural ecosystems is made up of biotic components (biodiversity) and abiotic ones (geodiversity).

Geodiversity: a new quantitative index for natural protected areas enhancement. [PDF]
In spite of the excellent results achieved by international scientific community, the topic of quantitative assessment of geodiversity is still a matter of debate. Quantitative models by including the assessment of abiotic characteristics need to be improved based on quantitative estimates of geological and topographic components.

2013
The research centered on geoconservation and geotourism stressed qualitative methods focusing on the definition, identification, study and development of geosites. Although the excellent results achieved by scientific international research, the topic of quantitative evaluation of geodiversity is still an open field.
