Nowcasting geoelectric fields in Ireland using magnetotelluric transfer functions [PDF]
Geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) driven by geoelectric fields pose a hazard to ground-based infrastructure, such as power grids and pipelines. Here, a new method is presented for modelling geoelectric fields in near real time, to provide valuable ...

Modeling Geoelectric Fields in Ireland and the UK for Space Weather Applications [PDF]
AbstractGeoelectric fields at the Earth's surface caused by geomagnetic storms have the potential to disrupt and damage ground‐based infrastructure such as electrical power distribution networks, pipelines, and railways. Here we model geoelectric fields in Ireland and the UK during both quiet and active time intervals of geomagnetic conditions using ...

Mapping Geoelectric Field Hazards in Ireland
Geoelectric fields are generated at the Earth's surface and can lead to the induction of hazardous geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) in infrastructure like power grids, railways and pipelines during geomagnetic storms.

Geoelectric fields and geomagnetically induced currents during the April 23–24, 2023 geomagnetic storm [PDF]
We present a study on the dynamical variations of geoelectric fields E during the intense geomagnetic storm of April 23–24, 2023. The storm is caused by the interplanetary counterpart of a coronal mass ejection erupted from the Sun in association with an

Analytic Calculation of Geoelectric Fields Due to Geomagnetic Disturbances: A Test Case
Geomagnetic field variations produce geoelectric fields that can affect the operation of technological networks at the Earth's surface, including power systems, pipelines, phone cables and railway circuits.

The geoelectric fields induced during geomagnetic disturbances (GMD) may affect the normal operation of technological systems at the Earth’s surface. The non-uniform Earth conductivity structure, especially large lateral conductivity contrasts, can lead ...

The Effect of Tidal Geoelectric Fields on GIC and PSP in Buried Pipelines [PDF]
Compared with the investigation of geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) in power grids, there is less study about the effect of geomagnetic disturbance (GMD) on buried oil and gas pipelines in mid-low latitude areas, which includes GIC and pipe-to-soil

A 100‐year Geoelectric Hazard Analysis for the U.S. High‐Voltage Power Grid
A once‐per‐century geoelectric hazard map is created for the U.S. high‐voltage power grid. A statistical extrapolation from 31 years of magnetic field measurements is made by identifying 84 geomagnetic storms with the Kp and Dst indices.
