This paper argues for a renewed consideration of counterfactuals within geography. Drawing upon Doreen Massey's emphasis on notions of 'possibility', 'chance', 'undecidability' and 'happenstance', we argue for an engagement with approaches in the humanities that have addressed such issues directly.
