Cool Kitchen: Processing Starch and Eggshell Powder into Sustainable Coatings for Passive Daytime Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A food‐grade cooling composite made from starch and recycled eggshell powder offers a scalable, ultra‐low‐cost solution for passive daytime radiative cooling. Easily prepared using basic kitchen tools, this material empowers communities, even in areas with limited infrastructure, to stay cooler during worsening summer heat waves.

Wafer‐Scale Integration of α‐quartz Thin Films toward Super High Frequency Piezoelectric bioNEMS for Chikungunya Virus Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Epitaxial piezoelectric α‐quartz/Si BioNEMS sensors, made using soft chemistry, effectively detect the Chikungunya virus. They have a mass sensitivity of 205 pg Hz−1 in liquid and can detect the virus at a limit of 9 ng mL−1. This development enables high‐frequency mass devices for point‐of‐care testing in healthcare and other electronic applications ...

Myeloperoxidase Luminol Reaction – A Novel Faecal Assay for Predicting Colonoscopy Findings in Patients with Ulcerative Colitis: A Pilot Cross‐Sectional Clinical Study

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Can luminol detect faecal inflammation? This study explores the development and optimisation of a rapid novel assay ‐ Myeloperoxidase Luminol Reaction (MPOLR) for the detection of faecal myeloperoxidase activity. This simple and rapid luminol‐based approach competes with clinically validated faecal biomarkers in predicting endoscopic findings in ...

Geographies of generation: age restrictions in international adoption [PDF]

open access: yesSocial & Cultural Geography, 2015
International adoption relocates minors, and only minors, from one country to another. The centrality of age to adoptive migration may prevent us from seeing the significance of generation: the prospective parent's age is also examined and evaluated for its relationship to the child's age and what this relationship will mean for the creation of a ...

Search Unemployment and New Economic Geography [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper develops a general equilibrium geographical economics model which uses matching frictions on the labor market to generate regional unemployment disparities alongside the usual core-periphery pattern of industrial agglomeration.

Geography for surfaces of general type in positive characteristic

open access: yesInventiones Mathematicae, 1991
The problem of geography is to deduce various properties of a minimal surface \(X\) of general type (for example, its existence or uniruledness) from constraints on its Chern numbers \((c_ 2, c_ 1^ 2)\). The aspect of this problem considered here is the following: Fix a positive real number \(\alpha\). Then in the \((x,y)\)-plane with \(x = c_ 2\) and \
