Rare Caudal Regeneration Anomalies in Geckos Are Associated With Global Solar Radiation Gradients

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Morphological abnormalities may reduce fitness in wild animals, making them ecologically relevant for conservation efforts. Anomalies, such as a bifurcation or a trifurcation of a regenerated gecko tail, can change locomotion, social signalling, and predator evasion, with potential effects on survival and reproductive success.

Putatively Adaptive and Genome‐Wide Genetic Variation Often Rank Populations as Similarly Distinctive

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 15, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Identifying which populations within species to prioritize to maintain genetic diversity is challenging. Due to its direct connection to current patterns of adaptation and presumed connection to adaptive capacity, some researchers advocate prioritizing adaptive variation.

Combined phylogenetic and geographic data can predict plant–pest interactions with high accuracy

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 251, Issue 4, Page 2107-2123, August 2026.
Schematic overview of the study pipeline. Summary Non‐native plant pests can pose major threats to biodiversity, with destructive ecological and economic consequences. The ability to predict future threats would allow limited resources to be concentrated on managing the most serious risks. We built a Bayesian model to predict hosts at risk from Agrilus,
