Given an IP address, it is a challenging task to obtain its geographic location. Besides approaches which associate coordinates with IP addresses in a predominantly static way, there are also measurement based approaches that exploit the correlation between the propagation delay of signals and round trip times of probe packets.

Geolocation and wireless multimedia
IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo, 2001. ICME 2001., 2001Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandates locating wireless phones that are in an emergency 911 call and many technologies were proposed and developed to meet that requirement. We review these techniques here because geolocation will have an even greater future role as a basis for value-added services and applications that integrate positioning ...

A key problem in widely distributed camera networks is locating the cameras. This paper considers three scenarios for camera localization: localizing a camera in an unknown environment, adding a new camera in a region with many other cameras, and localizing a camera by finding correlations with satellite imagery. We find that simple summary statistics (

The process of determining the geographic latitude and longitude (lat/lon) of the center point of the footprint is called geolocation, which is currently suboptimal for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) Level 1 data provided by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Here, we present a study for improving

This paper describes an existing database of geolocated tweets that were produced in Portuguese regions. The existing database was collected during eight consecutive days and contains about 307K tweets, produced by about 11K different users. A detailed analysis on the content of the messages suggests a predominance of teenagers and young adult authors ...
