Abstract Spatial heterogeneity, manifested as strong variability in hydraulic conductivity (K) within geological formations, exerts a fundamental control on groundwater flow and solute transport. Because K can vary over multiple orders of magnitude in complex three‐dimensional patterns, predicting contaminant plume migration remains a long‐standing ...

ABSTRACT Coastal lagoons are increasingly altered by hydrological modification and catchment‐derived nutrient loading, driving shifts in macrophyte dominance and creating complex management trade‐offs. In Chilika lagoon, India, the emergent macrophyte Phragmites karka has expanded, raising concerns about impacts on native macrophytes, habitat ...

A Methodological Investigation of Cost of Carbon Sequestration [PDF]
Increased attention by policy makers to the threat of global climate change has brought with it considerable attention to the possibility of encouraging the growth of forests as a means of sequestering carbon dioxide.

From net sink to episodic source: Seasonal dissolved inorganic carbon budget in an intertidal basin
Abstract The back‐barrier basin of Spiekeroog in the East Frisian Wadden Sea is a biogeochemically dynamic intertidal system that plays a key role in regulating coastal carbon fluxes and regional dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) budgets. Compared to total alkalinity, DIC fluxes in this region remain poorly quantified, limiting a comprehensive ...

Abstract Coral reefs are increasingly threatened by local and global stressors. Traditional visual reef monitoring methods are time‐intensive and provide only a snapshot of reef condition. Recent efforts aim to measure reef metabolism, or the balance of net community production (NCP) and net community calcification (NCC), as coral reef carbonate ...

Pre‐Eruptive Volatiles and Magma Storage Depth for the 2018 Eruption at Mount Veniaminof, Alaska
Abstract Mount Veniaminof is a frequently active, open‐system arc volcano on the Alaska Peninsula, part of the Alaska‐Aleutian arc. Mount Veniaminof's September–December 2018 eruption began with small lava flows and culminated in a larger explosive event in November that produced a 450 km long continuous ash plume—one of the volcano's most significant ...

Abstract One strategy to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere is to accelerate weathering in croplands by adding powdered rock. Both silicate and carbonate minerals can be effective as amendments, but strong acids from rain and fertilizer diminish CO2 removal and can promote degassing of CO2 from carbonate minerals (geogenic CO2).

Abstract As a key component of the climate system, terrestrial carbon dynamics are commonly simulated using Dynamic Global Vegetation Models (DGVMs), which provide essential information for estimating the global carbon budget. However, substantial uncertainties persist in DGVM‐based estimates of land‐use change carbon emissions, and their process‐level
