Butterfly abundances but not patch occupancy buffered by vegetation heterogeneity during climatic extremes

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
As extreme climatic events are becoming more frequent, we need to understand what mechanisms could buffer populations to ensure their persistence. Fragmented populations may be especially vulnerable, as exemplified by species with metapopulation dynamics whose persistence is determined by a precarious balance between frequent local extinctions and ...

Soil Carbon Markets in the Making: Power Relations and Matters of Concern in Offsetting and Insetting

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper investigates emerging soil carbon markets and seeks to identify the groups of actors and power relations that constitute their structure and function. Voluntary soil carbon markets (VSCMs) are emerging globally as a key mechanism for generating carbon removals as part of climate mitigation efforts.

From a Probabilistic PBEE Framework to Risk‐Targeted Structural Design With Cascading Hazards: Engineering Application for Seismic–Radiological Safety

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Earthquake‐induced damage of structures can trigger cascading hazards, linking structural performance to nonstructural consequences. In current engineering practice, these two aspects are typically addressed separately, limiting the ability to account for such coupled effects in design.

The Seepage Characteristics of Single Rough Joint of Granite Based on NMR Technology: A Modified Cubic Law

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
The low‐field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements are applied to investigate the seepage characteristics of the single rough joint. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the seepage characteristics of granite specimens with single‐joint channel under the different roughness, confining pressures and seepage pressures.
