Anatomy and variation in the paraphyletic Mosasaurus lemonnieri assemblage from the Craie phosphatée de ciply, Belgium

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Nineteenth century excavations of the Ciply‐Malogne Phosphatic Chalk Formation in Hainaut, Belgium, yielded over 50 partial mosasaur skeletons, the majority of which were referred to the species Mosasaurus lemonnieri Dollo, 1889. In the years since, this taxon has experienced a complicated taxonomic history, and its exceptional hypodigm has ...

Parsimonious High‐Resolution Landslide Susceptibility Modeling at Continental Scales

open access: yesAGU Advances
Landslide susceptibility maps are fundamental tools for risk reduction, but the coarse resolution of current continental‐scale models is insufficient for local application. Complex relations between topographic and environmental attributes characterizing

Slope Unit Maker (SUMak): an efficient and parameter-free algorithm for delineating slope units to improve landslide modeling [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
Slope units are terrain partitions bounded by drainage and divide lines. In landslide modeling, including susceptibility modeling and event-specific modeling of landslide occurrence, slope units provide several advantages over gridded units, such as ...

Osteohistological evidence for terrestrial adaptation and an extended growth period in mekosuchine crocodylians and its potential role in their extinction

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Australasian crocodylian fossil record is dominated by the extinct endemic clade Mekosuchinae, with known members spanning the Eocene‐to‐Holocene. This diverse clade exhibited high morphological disparity, from early members superficially similar to Crocodylus, to more terrestrial forms later in the clade's evolutionary history.

Geological hazards and their control in China

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Geological Society, 2000
The paper describes the main types of geological hazard and associated risk in China. The engineering geological achievements and problems are also discussed together with the developing trends and strategies for controlling the geological hazards within the next 10 years. The paper summarises the mechanism of failure of mass movements in China as well

Scanning Parametric Sediment Echosounder as Tool for Underwater Archaeological Prospection

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Underwater cultural heritage 3D prospection techniques, especially for remains that are partly buried in the ground, are only very rarely available and often can only be applied with considerable technical effort. To overcome this limitation, we evaluate a methodological adaption of widely used and available single channel parametric sediment ...

Deciphering the Palimpsest: Chronological Uncertainty and the Interpretation of Mining Landscapes at Písečný vrch (Czech Republic)

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigated the Písečný vrch (Czech Republic), a site exploited for quartz mining in both prehistoric times and the 20th century. Due to their morphological similarity across all mining periods, the differentiation between pits with archaeological potential and recent ones is challenging.

Mechanical response and energy dissipation law of double-fractured sandstone under dynamic load

open access: yesScientific Reports
To study the dynamic mechanical response and energy dissipation law of fractured sandstone, an SHPB device combined with a high-speed camera system was used to carry out impact compression tests with seven rock bridge angle specimens.
