Pleistocene Sea‐Level Fluctuation Shapes Archipelago‐Wide Population Structure in the Critically Endangered Lord Howe Island Cockroach Panesthia lata

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
We demonstrate that populations of the critically endangered Lord howe Island cockroach Panesthia lata were connected by land bridges during the last glacial period. Its 4 isolated populations are now highly inbred, suggesting that conservation translocation may be a viable strategy for conservation. ABSTRACT The Lord Howe Island Group (LHIG) is one of

Morphological instability in restored intertidal flats: How anthropogenic structures drive early‐stage evolution

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 3, March 2026.
The study focusses on the morphological evolution of worldwide restored intertidal flats. These intertidal flats initially experience high sedimentation rates after the opening of the connection with open waters. The anthropogenic structures cause high morphological instability and are eroded, leading to a self‐cannibalisation of the system.

Reconstructing human‐induced geomorphic changes through historical maps and multitemporal remote sensing data in the Cancano–San Giacomo di Fraele reservoirs (Central Alps, Italy)

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 3, March 2026.
Reconstructing ~200 years of landscape change at the Cancano–San Giacomo hydroelectric system (Central Alps), we integrate historical cartography, archival photographs, multitemporal aerial/satellite imagery and field validation to map pre‐ and post‐impoundment landforms.

Antioxidation is a Common Defense Strategy for Different Species Under Mechanical Stress

open access: yesAdvanced Genetics, Volume 7, Issue 1, March 2026.
Mechanical stress‐induced oxidative stress is a universal challenge across species, triggering a conserved antioxidant defense strategy. This perspective delves into the molecular evolutionary logic of this response, comparing mechanisms across plants, microorganisms, and animals to reveal their profound phylogenetic significance.

Stream channel storage: Closing the watershed total phosphorus budget

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, Volume 55, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Abstract A 3‐year total phosphorus (TP) budget was created for Walnut Creek, a ∼5200 ha agricultural watershed in central Iowa. The budget, developed from measures of streambank erosion, overland flow, baseflow, and flux to floodplain storage, was created with the specific goal of estimating in‐channel storage contributions to annual TP loads—a ...
