Three-dimensional urban geological modeling and its applications
Three-dimensional (3D) urban geological models (3DUGMS) are a very important support for urban planning, construction and management, for they can reduce the blindness in geological cognition and the huge risk in underground engineering design and ...

Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Extending the geological calibration of the geological time scale
This thesis arises from the fact that changes in the geometry of the Earth-Sun system, due to the gravitational interaction among the planets, cause quasi-cyclic climatic variations that are imprinted in the geological record.A speech-recognition method ...

3D Geological Modeling using Sketches and Annotations from Geologic Maps
Constructing 3D geological models is a fundamental task in oil/gas exploration and production. A critical stage in the existing 3D geological modeling workflow is moving from a geological interpretation (usually 2D) to a 3D geological model.

Luminescence and Photochromism in Lanthanide‐Doped Hackmanites
Lanthanide‐doped lithium hackmanite derivatives are prepared utilizing a doped LiAlSiO4 precursor to modify luminescent and photochromic properties. Upon UV excitation, europium doping results in green Eu2+ persistent luminescence from shallow traps. Contrarily, samarium doping induces unusual near‐infrared photochromism.

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Geological Modelling at the Croatian Geological Survey
Geological modeling at the Croatian Geological Survey is a developing discipline. In the past few years, a number of geological models were made, mostly for internal use, or as a training result for the ongoing projects, primarily GeoTwinn and Geosekva ...
