Geometry of Valley Growth

open access: yes, 2010
Although amphitheater-shaped valley heads can be cut by groundwater flows emerging from springs, recent geological evidence suggests that other processes may also produce similar features, thus confounding the interpretations of such valley heads on ...

The Newly Discovered Pathway for Oxygen Evolution Reaction: In‐Situ/Operando Characterization Techniques for Catalyst Development

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This study introduces a newly discovered oxide path mechanism (OPM) for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), emphasizing the role of in‐situ and operando characterization techniques in unraveling catalyst behavior under realistic conditions. The integration of advanced spectroscopic methods provides new mechanistic insights for the design of highly ...

Remote sensing interpretation and application of geological environment conditions in early identification of potential geo-hazards: A case study of Huaping county

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica
Huaping county is located in the mountains bordering the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau and the Qinghai–Xizang Plateau, where geo-hazards occur frequently. In order to understand the background of disaster generation and the laws of their occurrence, as well as ...

The strategic and the stratigraphic: a working paper on the dynamics of organisational evolution. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Despite large debates over fundamental issues a broadly evolutionary paradigm of organisations is growing in legitimacy. It may though be preferable to replace the metaphor of the organisation as an organism with the literal assertion that both social ...

Earthquakes: from chemical alteration to mechanical rupture

open access: yes, 1998
In the standard rebound theory of earthquakes, elastic deformation energy is progressively stored in the crust until a threshold is reached at which it is suddenly released in an earthquake.

Molten‐Salt‐Mediated Chemical Looping Oxidative Dehydrogenation of Ethane with In‐Situ Carbon Capture and Utilization

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 6, March 15, 2025.
A sustainable alternative to steam cracking, the molten‐salt‐mediated oxidative dehydrogenation (MM‐ODH) of ethane (C2H6) in Li2CO3‐Na2CO3‐K2CO3 (LNK) couples thermal cracking with melt‐mediated CO2 capture to realize commercially competitive C2H4 and CO yields. LNK composition strongly influences MM‐ODH process outcomes.

Inversion for Anisotropic Velocity Parameter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The problem under study concerns the robust computation of a certain parameter of anisotropy from observed travel-times of a seismic shear wave propagating through a geological medium. We have obtained an exact mathematical description of a geoseismic

Failure mechanism of the coal wall at the working face based on an eccentric compression mechanical model

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
In this study, the nonuniform distribution of the bearing pressure in front of the coal wall has been revealed based on in situ monitoring data and numerical simulation results. Therefore, an eccentric compression mechanical model of the coal wall was established to study the deformation and failure characteristics of a coal wall. The slenderness ratio
