Study on the failure mechanism of the shield excavation face in the sandy cobble stratum under different buried depths

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract One of the significant challenges faced in shield tunnel construction is the risk of collapse resulting from abrupt changes in soil conditions in advance of the working face, particularly within the sandy cobble stratum. This study aims to effectively manage these sudden variations and to further investigate the failure mechanisms associated ...

Morphotectonic Schematization for the Sector of Guamá, Santiago de Cuba

open access: yesMinería y Geología, 2016
The relief was classified and the active nature of the faults located in the sector of Guamá was evaluated. The application of morphotectonic methods generated a 1:25 000 morphotectonic scheme.

Multi-source data integration and multi-scale modeling framework for progressive prediction of complex geological interfaces in tunneling

open access: yesUnderground Space
A reliable geological model plays a fundamental role in the efficiency and safety of mountain tunnel construction. However, regional models based on limited survey data represent macroscopic geological environments but not detailed internal geological ...

Remote sensing interpretation and application of geological environment conditions in early identification of potential geo-hazards: A case study of Huaping county

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica
Huaping county is located in the mountains bordering the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau and the Qinghai–Xizang Plateau, where geo-hazards occur frequently. In order to understand the background of disaster generation and the laws of their occurrence, as well as ...

Resonance‐induced restoration of rock permeability degraded by heavy components of crude oil

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Resonance‐induced changes occur in filtration properties of sedimentary rocks in crude paraffin oil flow under acoustic vibrations. Experimental data on (a) pressure drop; (b) permeability; (c) pressure at the rock inlet; and (d) pressure at the rock outlet are presented.

Rockburst prediction based on data preprocessing and hyperband‐RNN‐DNN

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A data preprocessing workflow is proposed to address challenges in rockburst data analysis. Coupled algorithms preprocess the data set, and hyperband optimization is used to enhance RNN performance. Results show that preprocessing improves accuracy, while dense layers enhance model stability and prediction performance.

Science or fiction? What the anthropocene means for EPT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
How should environmental political theorists deal with environmental science? The question has acquired a new urgency with the rise of the Anthropocene, a geological-cum-ecological concept received with skepticism by many political theorists.
