Correlating magnetic field polarity changes with geologic phenomena

Geology, 1985
Two reported correlations are discussed in this paper: the first claims a correlation between magnetic polarity and oxidation state of igneous rocks, and the second claims that the Hawaiian hot-spot chain exhibits a significantly dominant normal-polarity bias.

EMERGENT CHEMO-HYDRO-MECHANICAL PHENOMENA IN CARBON GEOLOGICAL STORAGE

2011
The combustion of fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide (CO2). Carbon capture and geological storage (CCS) has been proposed to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. The properties of CO2 depend on pressure and temperature: it can be found as a gas, liquid, or supercritical, and it reacts with water to produce carbonic acid lowering

Cellular Automata Approaches for Simulating Rheology of Complex Geological Phenomena

1998
Cellular Automata (CA) permit sometime an alternative method to differential equations for modelling and simulating some kind of complex systems, which can be described in terms of local interactions of their constituent parts. Typical application fields of CA are microscopic physical phenomena with elementary automata, which have few states and a ...

Numerical modelling of geological phenomena in karst regions

2001
This article gives an overview of geophysical methods that can be used for the investigation in karst regions. Representative geological profiles and some geomechanical parameters can be estimated on the basis of geophysical measurements. Numerical modelling was performed in order to study the subsurface processes that lead to the formation of ...

Part V. Igneous phenomena and geologic structure near Mapimi

Geological Society of America Bulletin, 1936
INTRODUCTION This paper discusses the geology of an area of about 150 square miles, extending north and northeast from the town of Mapimi, in north-eastern Durango, Mexico. The location is shown by Figure 1. The area contains an abundance of both intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks and affords an opportunity to correlate part of the igneous geology ...

Potential Conflict Situations arising from Geological Settings and Environmental Phenomena

1980
The development of petroleum resources involves activities which impact across man-made boundaries. Settlement of boundary disputes may not completely end petroleum-related international disputes in the areas of exploratory research, petroleum production, and environmental control.

A Electromagnetic Theory of Earth's Rotation, Monsoons, and Geological Phenomena

This manuscript proposes a novel hypothesis that a continuous low-voltage electric current circulates through Earth's internal structure, contributing to geophysical phenomena such as Earth's sustained rotation, monsoonal irregularities, mountain and island formation, and the occurrence of earthquakes and volcanoes.

Spatio-temporal characteristics of geological phenomena: Linking patterns to processes

To predict and identify governing geological processes and their occurrence in space and time one needs to understand at what spatio-temporal scales they are active. The same goes for the design of experiments or numerical simulations and their up-scaling.
