Mapping residual water fluoride levels and geological patterns in a rural semi-arid area of Brazil

open access: yesScientific Reports
Some areas of Brazil have natural sources of fluoride in their water supply. Identifying these areas is an important measure to guide oral health measures when implementing safe fluoride applications, either alone or in combination. The study aims to map

Identification, prediction and mitigation of sinkhole hazards in evaporite karst areas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Sinkholes usually have a higher probability of occurrence and a greater genetic diversity in evaporite terrains than in carbonate karst areas. This is because evaporites have a higher solubility, and commonly a lower mechanical strength.

Tunable Extraordinary Optical Transmission in the Long‐Wavelength Infrared Range Using Electrostatic MEMS Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A MEMS‐integrated metamaterial filter enables continuous, low‐voltage spectral tuning in the long‐wavelength infrared (LWIR). The device employs extraordinary optical transmission in a dual suspended metasurface stack, where electrostatic actuation precisely controls the intermembrane air gap.

In situ interpretation and ex situ museum display of geology. New opportunities for a geoheritage based dialogue?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geoheritage and Parks, 2019
This article attempts to address the historical and current links existing between the conceptions gouverning the in situ approach of geology and the ex situ musealisation of geological collections, particularly from their effects on interpretation and ...

Assessment of the Impact Hazard of the Array Taking Into Account the Geological Features of the Structure of Electric Profiles [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
The current geodynamic situation at the Tashtagol iron ore De- posit is considered. The impact hazard of the array was determined using electrometric coefficients obtained taking into account the geological struc- ture of the array.

Post-failure evolution analysis of a rainfall-triggered landslide by multi-temporal interferometry SAR approaches integrated with geotechnical analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Persistent Scatterers Interferometry (PSI) represents one of the most powerful techniques for Earth's surface deformation processes' monitoring, especially for long-term evolution phenomena.

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

"Che tempo, che tempo": geology and environment in Max Frisch´s Der Mensch erscheint im Holozän [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Critical readings of Frisch’s Der Mensch erscheint im Holozän [Man in the Holo-cene] have tended to read its heterogeneous and inter-medial form as a code for the mental disintegration of its protagonist.

Modeling seismic wave propagation and amplification in 1D/2D/3D linear and nonlinear unbounded media

open access: yes, 2010
To analyze seismic wave propagation in geological structures, it is possible to consider various numerical approaches: the finite difference method, the spectral element method, the boundary element method, the finite element method, the finite volume ...

DC‐magnetometry Analytical Tool Driven by Spin Ordering Phenomena for Sensing Chemical Interactions at the Surface of Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The adsorption of AsV on akaganeite nanorods was found to provide a magnetic signature. A change in the surface spin order gave rise to a second peak in the zero‐field cooled curve. AsIII adsorption does not provide any change in the magnetic behavior of the sorbent.
