Hoek–Brown rock mass: adjusting Geological Strength Index for directional strength [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 2020 International Symposium on Slope Stability in Open Pit Mining and Civil Engineering, 2020
Rock mass shear strength is often directional due to sets of geological defects that co-align with failure paths. In the limit, the entire path may be defined by co-aligned defects and rock mass strength in that direction is equal to defect strength plus the strength of any intact rock bridges that may exist between such defects.

Mechanical Parameters of Deep-Buried Coal Goaf Rock Mass Based on Optimized GSI Quantitative Analysis

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
In order to obtain the accurate mechanical parameters of deep-buried coal goaf rock mass, the limitation of geological strength index (GSI) in concealed rock mass is analyzed.

Interaction of deformation-strength characteristics of the support load-bearing elements in the preparatory workings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The objective of this work is to study the relationship of the deformation-strength characteristics of the fastening system with its displacement value. The tendencies of influence are divided into two groups.

A new method for evaluating the rock mass damage index based on the field point load strength [PDF]

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2019
The damage index is a crucial controlling parameter for rock mass strength and deformation in civil, geological and mining engineering projects. In this study, a new method was proposed for computing the damage index of a rock mass based on the field ...

Why Engineers Should Not Attempt to Quantify GSI

open access: yesGeosciences, 2022
In the past decade, there has been an increasing trend of digitalizing rock engineering processes. However, this process has not been accompanied by a critical analysis of the very same empirical methods that many complex numerical and digital methods ...

GROUND VIBRATIONS LEVEL CHARACTERIZATION THROUGH THE GEOLOGICAL STRENGTH INDEX (GSI)

open access: yesRudarsko-geološko-naftni zbornik, 2016
This paper analyses results of trial, construction and quarry blasting, carried out in sediment rock deposits, mainly limestone and dolomite, at the different locations in Republic Croatia. The division of the three test groups was based on the lithology changes and GSI values of the rock units at these locations.
