Assimilation of radiance tendency observations from geostationary satellites in NCEP's Global Forecast System

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, Volume 151, Issue 773, October 2025 Part B.
A new approach assimilating the temporal variation of geostationary clear‐sky radiance observations has been proposed and first tested using the US global model. In this initial study, the technique produces neutral to slightly positive forecast metrics compared to traditional radiance assimilation over all surface types.

Exploring the Relationship Between Stress State and Fault Stability at the Hikurangi Subduction Margin, New Zealand

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract The Hikurangi Subduction Margin (HSM), New Zealand is characterized by along‐strike variation in slip behavior, linked to spatial‐temporal variations of plate interface coupling, tectonic stresses, and pore fluid pressures (Pp) in the overriding plate.

A complementary approach to quantify the basic GSI chart considering scale effect on rock structure

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
Geological strength index (GSI) has been widely used as an input parameter in predicting the strength and deformation properties of rock masses. This study derived a series of equations to satisfy the original GSI lines on the basic GSI chart.
