Influence of degree of interlock on confined strength of jointed hard rock masses

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2020
The strength of jointed rock mass is strongly controlled by the degree of interlock between its constituent rock blocks. The degree of interlock constrains the kinematic freedom of individual rock blocks to rotate and slide along the block forming joints.

Practical Applications of Strength Criteria in Civil Engineering Designs for Shallow Tunnels in Weak Rock

open access: yesInternational Journal of Technology, 2019
A number of rock strength criteria are available for use in civil engineering designs. Although considerable uncertainty in geological conditions and variability in rock properties is involved in estimating rock mass strength, it may be necessary to ...

3D numerical modelling of shallow tunnel in weathered granite incorporating multi-stage excavation and pre-support [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Generally tunnelling in urban ground condition is not always favourable due to the tunnels’ susceptibility to major displacement especially when excavated in the soft soil and/or weak weathered rock formation. Apart from conventional support systems, pre-

GEOSITE HERITAGE AND FORMATION EVOLUTION OF MAGA WATERFALL, LONG PASIA, SOUTH OF SIPITANG, SABAH [PDF]

open access: yesGeological Behavior, 2017
Maga Waterfall is situated in the inland of Long Pasia which is at the south of Sipitang, Sabah. The location of Air Terjun Maga is still less known by the public however, if it is promoted it has the potential to attract local and foreign tourists. An

Stability analysis of deep jointed rock face based on GSI

open access: yesMeikuang Anquan, 2023
In view of the difficulty in selecting mechanical parameters of jointed rock mass, a mechanical model of jointed rock mass considering joint strength is built based on the geological strength index GSI, combined with the damage mechanics principle and ...

All‐sky assimilation impacts of the Tomorrow.io microwave sounder constellation on global weather forecasts

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Key Findings: An assimilation methodology is established for the Tomorrow.io microwave sounder (TMS) flying on CubeSats in sun‐synchronous and inclined orbits, and in all cloud scenes. The TMS has a significant impact on weather forecast lead times up to 3 days in the Tropics in a research‐quality numerical weather prediction setting, and yields water ...

PFAS Vadose Zone Mass Discharge at an AFFF‐Impacted Site: 1. Validation Based on a Multiple Lines‐of‐Evidence Approach

open access: yesRemediation Journal, Volume 36, Issue 2, Spring 2026.
ABSTRACT Questions have recently been raised about the suitability of using porewater samples collected with suction lysimeters to estimate per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) mass discharge in the vadose zone. Multiple lines of evidence were evaluated to determine if porewater samples collected during a data gaps investigation in the former ...

Drilling grid blasting upgrading based on Geological Strength Index (GSI), case “La Maruja” mine, Colombia

open access: yesBoletín de Ciencias de la Tierra, 2016
Having proper rock masses characterization is of great importance in underground mining works to make the right decisions in terms of sustenance and other tasks like is the case of drilling and blasting. Here it is proposed the built of a geomechanical table based in the GSI through which to decide the drilling grid configuration applies for each rock ...
