The Geography of Success: A Spatial Analysis of Export Intensity in the Italian Wine Industry

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper investigates the paradox of how Italy's fragmented, SME‐dominated wine industry achieves global export success. Moving beyond purely firm‐centric explanations, we test whether export intensity is spatially dependent, clustering geographically in regional ecosystems.

Predicting the strength of microsilica lime stabilized sulfate sand using hybrid machine learning models optimized with sparrow search algorithm

open access: yesScientific Reports
Accurately predicting the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) of microsilica-lime stabilized sulfate sand (MSLSS) is critical for the safe and efficient design of infrastructure in arid regions, yet it remains challenging due to the highly nonlinear ...

Influence of suction pressure of clay unsaturated soils on slope stability

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений: Геология и разведка
Background. The main aspects of the influence of suction pressure on slope stability are considered; an example of calculations in the Plaxis software is presented. Specific features in the behavior of unsaturated and saturated soils are described.

Development of Practical Finite Element Models for Collapse of Reinforced Concrete Structures and Experimental Validation

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2017
This paper describes two practical methodologies for modeling the collapse of reinforced concrete structures. They are validated with a real scale test of a two-floor structure which loses a bearing column.

Tectonics-Related Geosites: Towards Accurate Nomenclature

open access: yesGeosciences, 2019
Accurate nomenclature of geological heritage sites (geosites) is necessary to facilitate their description and territorial geodiversity evaluation (both important for sustainable development and efficient land-use planning).

Developing slurries for carbon capture: From synthetic gas mixtures to flue gas

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Deep eutectic solvent (DES)‐based systems have recently emerged as promising alternatives to conventional liquid sorbents for CO2 capture due to their tunable properties and potential for enhanced mass transfer. In this work, two DES‐based slurry systems previously developed for CO2 capture, one aqueous and one non‐aqueous, were further ...

Crop insurance and irrigation behavior: The conditional role of pumping costs

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Excessive water use for irrigation can accelerate the depletion of water resources, undermining agriculture's resilience to weather‐related shocks. Understanding how farmers make water use decisions is essential for developing effective water management policies.

Growth and dissection of a fold and thrust belt: the geological record of the High Agri Valley, Italy

open access: yesJournal of Maps, 2020
We present a 130 km2 wide geological map for the NE side of the fault-bounded High Agri Valley Southern Italy, that formed in the Quaternary in response to extensional tectonics dissecting the folds and thrusts of the Lucanian Apennine.

High‐elevation endemic plants predicted to lose habitat from changing climate in Washington State

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise High‐elevation plants face unique challenges from potential climate change impacts that will likely require upslope migration into increasingly smaller suitable habitat. This situation is particularly acute for endemic species that by definition occupy small geographic ranges.
