Morphological diversity of saber‐tooth upper canines and its functional implications

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Elongated upper canine teeth, commonly known as saber‐teeth, have evolved three times within the sub‐order Feliformia. The species that wielded them flourished throughout the Cenozoic and have historically been separated into two morphological groups: the dirk‐tooths with longer, flatter canines, and the scimitar‐tooths with shorter, serrated ...

Primary characteristics of the extreme heavy rainfall event over Henan in July 2021

open access: yesAtmospheric Science Letters, Volume 24, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
China is located in the East Asian monsoon region, which experiences relatively frequent heavy rainfall events in summer. Growing sabers: Mandibular shape and biomechanical performance trajectories during the ontogeny of Smilodon fatalis

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The evolution of organisms can be studied through the lens of developmental systems, as the timing of development of morphological features is an important aspect to consider when studying a phenotype. Such data can be challenging to obtain in fossil amniotes owing to the scarcity of their fossil record. However, the numerous remains of Rancho

Determination of Trace Silver in Carbonate Rock Samples by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry with Ammonium Oxalate Matrix Modifier

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2016
Direct determination of trace silver in all kinds of geological samples by Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry has been widely reported. In all of them, the samples were dissolved by acids.

Predicting ecology and hearing sensitivities in Parapontoporia—An extinct long‐snouted dolphin

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Analyses of the cetacean (whale and dolphin) inner ear provide glimpses into the ecology and evolution of extinct and extant groups. The paleoecology of the long‐snouted odontocete (toothed whale) group, Parapontoporia, is primarily marine with its depositional context also suggesting freshwater tolerance.
