Keynote lecture. Forecasting the inundation of postfire debris flows [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2023
In the semi-arid regions of the western United States, postfire debris flows are typically runoff generated. The U.S. Geological Survey has been studying the mechanisms of postfire debris-flow initiation for multiple decades to generate operational ...

Fish carcass deposition to suppress invasive lake trout through hypoxia causes limited, non‐target effects on benthic invertebrates in Yellowstone Lake

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 470-483, December 2022., 2022
In Yellowstone Lake, Wyoming, lake trout carcasses are used to suppress invasive lake trout embryos in an effort to conserve native Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Using a field experiment, we determined that carcass treatment had limited, non‐target effects on benthic invertebrates.

A tale of two valleys: endangered species policy and the fate of the giant gartersnake

open access: yesCalifornia Fish and Wildlife Journal, 2021

Petrophysically and geologically guided multi-physics inversion using a dynamic Gaussian mixture model [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Journal International, 224(1), 40-68 (2020), 2020
In a previous paper, we introduced a framework for carrying out petrophysically and geologically guided geophysical inversions. In that framework, petrophysical and geological information is modelled with a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). In the inversion, the GMM serves as a prior for the geophysical model.

Backpack electrofishing does not contribute to external signs of gas bubble trauma in sculpins

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 572-577, December 2022., 2022
Abstract We exposed prickly sculpin Cottus asper and reticulate sculpin Cottus perplexus to electroshock and sham treatments in a controlled laboratory setting to determine if backpack electrofishing contributed to or exacerbated external signs of gas bubble trauma (GBT) in fish exposed to elevated total dissolved gas (TDG) levels. Fish were exposed to

Diet influences survival and growth of intensively reared larval saugeye (Sander vitreus × Sander canadensis)

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 450-457, December 2022., 2022
Abstract We evaluated the performance of five commercial microstarter diets (Otohime, Gemma Micro, Gemma Wean, Optimal Starter, and Omega One Fry) fed to first feeding larval saugeye Sander vitreus × Sander canadensis. Triplicate tanks of 2500 larvae (initial weight: 2.6 ± 0.6 mg) were stocked at 4 days post‐hatch (DPH) and fed treatment diets for 4 ...

Performance of limestone‐based sorbent for sorption‐enhanced gasification in dual interconnected fluidized bed reactors

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 69, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Abstract A possibility to carry out sorption‐enhanced gasification (SEG) is represented by its integration with the calcium looping concept in dual interconnected fluidized beds (DIFB). This article is focused on the sorbent CO2 uptake performance and attrition/fragmentation tendency when operating conditions simulating those of a DIFB‐SEG process are ...
