Characteristics of Carbon and Oxygen Isotope Standard Materials of Carbonates and Their Effect on Isotope Analysis and Standard Preservation

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2021
BACKGROUND Carbon and oxygen isotopes in carbonates are commonly used in geology and climate studies. Reference materials for these isotopes are an important basis for analysis and data comparison.

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Colonial Geological Surveys [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1944
IN his article on Colonial Geological Surveys in NATURE of March 4, Mr. V. A. Eyles gave a useful resume of recent discussions. There are, however, some further considerations to be noted. The figures he quoted from Sir Edmund Teale's paper of the results of mining operations, following upon the activities of Colonial Geological Surveys, do not include

Tailoring K+/Vacancy Disordered Layered Oxide via Charge Engineering for Stabilizing High‐Performance Potassium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
With a charge‐ion coupling engineering strategy, a K+/vacancy disordered K0.5Mn0.8Co0.1Ti0.1O2 material has been designed. The targeted transition metal doping disrupts charge ordering and inducing K+/vacancy disordering, thereby enabling rapid K+ diffusion through interconnected channels and a stable solid‐solution reaction mechanism.

Sir Henry Thomas De la Beche and the founding of the British Geological Survey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The founding of the Geological Survey by Henry De la Beche in 1835 is a key event in the history of British geology. Yet the Survey’s initiation actually began three years earlier when De la Beche secured financial assistance from the Board of Ordnance ...

Spiro‐Phenothiazine Hole‐Transporting Materials: Unlocking Stability and Scalability in Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorene‐functionalized spiro‐phenothiazine (PTZ‐Fl) exhibits strong Li+ affinity and thermal stability, enabling a PCE of 25.75% in small‐area cells and 22.07% in 25 cm2 modules. Under ISOS‐L3 conditions, PTZ‐Flbased devices retain over 80% efficiency after 1000 hours, demonstrating superior stability and scalability compared to spiro‐OMeTAD for next ...

Over a third of groundwater in USA public-supply aquifers is Anthropocene-age and susceptible to surface contamination

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment, 2022
Principal aquifers in the US with a large fraction of Anthropocene groundwater are susceptible to land-surface contamination, according to the cumulative distribution function analysis of the groundwater age.
