Assessment of automated stratigraphic interpretations of boreholes with geology-informed metrics
Stratigraphic interpretation of borehole data is a fundamental aspect of subsurface geological models, providing critical insights into the distribution of stratigraphic units. However, expert interpretation of all available borehole data is impractical for large-scale regional mapping involving thousands of boreholes.

Abstract One of the significant challenges faced in shield tunnel construction is the risk of collapse resulting from abrupt changes in soil conditions in advance of the working face, particularly within the sandy cobble stratum. This study aims to effectively manage these sudden variations and to further investigate the failure mechanisms associated ...

The Great Dyke of Zimbabwe is notable for its rich platinum group metal deposits but poses significant geological and geotechnical challenges due to its complex rock types and structural features. Traditional pillar design methods are insufficient for addressing these complexities; the study suggests incorporating advanced techniques such as machine ...

Anthropocene angst: Authentic geology and stratigraphic sincerity
In March 2024, the Anthropocene Working Group’s proposal for a formal Anthropocene Series/Epoch of the Geologic Time Scale was formally rejected by the Subcommission on Quaternary Stratigraphy. What does the failed formalization effort reveal about the relationship between science and normativity under conditions of ‘climate crisis’?
