Was the GLE on May 17, 2012 linked with the M5.1-class flare the first in the 24th solar cycle? [PDF]
On May 17, 2012 an M5.1-class flare exploded from the sun. An O-type coronal mass ejection (CME) was also associated with this flare. There was an instant increase in proton flux with peak at $\geq 100$ MeV, leading to S2 solar radiation storm level.

Relativistic microburst storm characteristics: Combined satellite and ground-based observations [PDF]
We report a comparison of Solar Anomalous Magnetospheric Particle Explorer detected relativistic electron microbursts and short-lived subionospheric VLF perturbations termed FAST events, observed at Sodankyl Geophysical Observatory, Finland, during 2005.

Abstract Interactions of solar wind dynamic pressure (SWDP) discontinuities with Earth's magnetosphere cause geomagnetic Sudden Commencements (SCs). Typically, positive/negative SCs occur at low latitudes due to enhancements/reductions in SWDP.

HIGH-SPEED SOLAR WIND AND GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY
The impact of high-speed solar wind disturbances on the occurrence of geomagnetic storms is analyzed. The solar wind velocity values, determined from scintillation observations at the UTR-2 and URAN-2 Ukrainian decameter radio telescopes are analyzed ...

Diurnal variations of cosmic ray geomagnetic cut-off threshold rigidities [PDF]
The spectrographic global survey method was used to investigate the rigidity variations Rc of geomagnetic cut-off as a function of local time and the level of geomagnetic disturbance for a number of stations of the world wide network.

Abstract In May 2024, extraordinary solar activity triggered a powerful solar storm, impacting Earth and producing the extreme geomagnetic storm of 10‐11 May, the most intense since 2003. This had significant effects on the magnetosphere, leading to the creation of a new long‐lasting component of relativistic electrons and to flux changes in the South ...

Abstract The mesospheric semiannual oscillation (MSAO) in tropical zonal‐mean zonal winds exhibits a strong westward phase around March equinox. It has been thought that the migrating diurnal tide (DW1) plays a role in the initiation of this phase because DW1 peaks around this time and satellite observations have shown it to undergo wave breaking.

Connection between ENSO phenomena and solar and geomagnetic activity [PDF]
Connections between El Niño – Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomena and indices of solar activity and geomagnetic disturbance were investigated. Spectral analysis of the ENSO-data was carried out.

Real-time Magnetometer Disturbance Estimation via Online Nonlinear Programming
Magnetometer is a significant sensor for integrated navigation. However, it suffers from many kinds of unknown dynamic magnetic disturbances. We study the problem of online estimating such disturbances via a nonlinear optimization aided by intermediate ...
