Availability of geomagnetic information

open access: yesStrategos, 2023
The issue of public availability of the Earth’s magnetic field data is not adequately regulated. The paper presents a proposal to declare geomagnetic information publicly available only when its reliability drops to the reliability of the currently best ...

Geomagnetic Virtual Observatories: Global monitoring of geomagnetic secular variation with Swarm data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020

The ESA Swarm DISC Geomagnetic Virtual Observatories (GVO) project aims to apply the virtual observatory concept to Swarm magnetic field measurements. The Virtual Observatory concept is a data processing method which mimics the behavior of magnetic monthly-mean time-series measured at ground observatories but at fixed ...

Twenty years of geomagnetic field observations at Mario Zucchelli Station (Antarctica)

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2009
During the 1986-87 austral summer a geomagnetic observatory was installed at Terra Nova Bay. During the first
years both geomagnetic field time variation monitoring and absolute measurements were carried out only during
summer ...

Monitoring the plasmapause using geomagnetic field line resonances [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 2004
This paper discusses the use of ground magnetometer data to derive plasma mass density profiles of the dayside plasmapause region with spatial and temporal resolution in the range 0.15–0.4 RE and 20–60 min. This is achieved using cross‐phase techniques to identify field line resonance signatures that are not apparent in power spectra.

Geomagnetic observatories: monitoring the Earth's magnetic and space weather environment [PDF]

open access: yesWeather, 2014
Geomagnetism research provides insight into the Earth’s properties and processes, from the core out to space. For this reason continuous geomagnetic field observations have been carried out in the UK for more than 170 years. Geomagnetism also has diverse applications, in navigation, maps, even smart phone apps, and in the monitoring and prediction of ...

Geomagnetic data real-time forecast based on neural networks [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
Earth magnetosphere has a complex structure and its state is estimated by geomagnetic indexes. The paper suggests an approach to make real-time forecast of SME geomagnetic index variations.

Feasibility Study on Earthquake Prediction Based on Impending Geomagnetic Anomalies

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
By deploying a magnetic monitoring network in the earthquake-prone areas of Sichuan, China, and conducting long-term observations, processing, and analysis of real-time geomagnetic data, it can be observed that the pre-earthquake geomagnetic anomalies ...

Long-Term Seafloor Electromagnetic Observation in the Northwest Pacific May Detect the Vector Geomagnetic Secular Variation

open access: yesData Science Journal, 2010
Sea Floor ElectroMagnetic Stations (SFEMSs) are now operating at two deep seafloor sites called the 'WPB' and the 'NWP' in the West Philippine Basin and the Northwest Pacific Basin, respectively.

Early diagnostics of geomagnetic storms based on observations of space monitoring systems

open access: yesSolar-Terrestrial Physics, 2019
We address the problem of early diagnostics of geomagnetic storms based on the use of models of coordinates of movements of centers of solar coronal mass ejections (CME) and observations of their angular positions obtained from space monitoring systems ...
