On the geomagnetic storm effect

Journal of Geophysical Research, 1957
In a recent paper,1 an objection was raised against the “ring-current” hypothesis of geomagnetic storm effects, and an alternative hypothesis based on atmosphere displacements was advanced. The objection arose from the unacceptable delay, estimated at 87 days, required for the passage of the storm through the outer reaches of the earth's atmosphere ...

Forbush decreases and geomagnetic storms

Geomagnetizm i aèronomiâ
Forbush decreases in galactic cosmic rays (according to data from a network of neutron monitors) and accompanying geomagnetic disturbances over a long period from 1957 to 2022 have been identified and studied. Statistical relationships between various parameters of cosmic ray flux and geomagnetic activity indices are analyzed.

Recovery times of geomagnetic storms

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1963
Using the hourly values of the horizontal component of geomagnetic field at Alibag, India, the recovery times of several geomagnetic storms occuring during the period 1947-59 are evaluated. Relation between average recovery time and sunspot activity is studied. Bough parallelism is observed.

Solar antecedents of geomagnetic storms

1997
Geomagnetic storms occur when solar wind with unusual characteristics touches the Earth's magnetosphere, but their ultimate origins lie in the structure and dynamics of the solar atmosphere. We observe this atmosphere above the solar limb with coronagraphs, and generally across the whole visible hemisphere at radio and XUV wavelengths.
