Statistical Modeling and Prediction of Ionospheric Equivalent Currents Based on SuperMAG Data

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract We present a Solar Wind driven SuperMAG statistical Equivalent Current model (SW‐SMEC), which represents the ionospheric equivalent currents in the Northern Hemisphere. The model is based on average current patterns derived from SuperMAG ground magnetometer data covering the solar cycle 23 (1997–2008).

潮汐地电场对电网GIC计算的影响研究

open access: yesGaoya dianqi, 2021

The First Three‐Dimensional Electrical Resistivity Model of the Lithosphere Beneath Britain

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Magnetotelluric data provide unique information to study the electrical resistivity of the Earth's lithosphere, enabling studies of geological structures, tectonic processes, resource exploration, and hazard monitoring. Here, we present the first fully three‐dimensional (3D) electrical resistivity model of the deep lithosphere beneath Britain (

Validating the LDi and LCi Indices in the Southern Hemisphere

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2022
The validation of the Local Disturbance index (LDi) and its first time derivative Local Current index (LCi) is performed in the Southern Hemisphere. Two South African magnetic observatories, Hermanus and Hartebeesthoek contributed data for this study ...

Geomagnetic observatories: monitoring the Earth’s magnetic and space weather environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Geomagnetism research provides insight into the Earth’s properties and processes, from the core out to space. For this reason continuous geomagnetic field observations have been carried out in the UK for more than 170 years. Geomagnetism also has diverse

Characterization of Regional Space Weather Conditions in Mexico During Solar Minimum 24/25: Baseline for Severity Scale Development

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Using observations from the National Space Weather Laboratory's (LANCE acronym in Spanish) ground‐based network, we characterize regional space weather conditions in Mexico during the solar minimum 24/25 (2018–2020). Data analyzed include regional geomagnetic indices (the regional K index, Kmex, and Δ ${\Delta }$H), ionospheric Total Electron ...

Automated real time detection of solar wind shocks and consequences for the identification of SSC and SI events [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Algorithms have been developed to automatically detect Earth bound shocks in the solar wind as measured by the ACE satellite. These involve simple threshold techniques and wavelet analysis.

Why Do Sudden Commencements Sometimes Generate Disproportionate Geomagnetically Induced Currents?

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GICs) in grounded, conducting infrastructure (e.g., power networks) represent an important space weather hazard. GICs are driven by the changing magnetic field at the Earth's surface. Due to a sparsity of GIC measurements, the rate of change of the horizontal geomagnetic field H′ $\left({H}^{\prime }\right ...
