Effects of testosterone and high‐dose anabolic steroids on orthodontic‐induced bone remodeling and root resorption: An animal study

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study investigates the impact of disruptions in testosterone levels on bone remodeling, root resorption, and periodontal ligament (PDL) during orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) in a pubertal male rat model. Methods Testosterone deficiency was induced through orchiectomy, and the anabolic‐androgenic steroid (AAS, testosterone ...

Testing the Island Effect in a Highly Mobile Pollinator: Wing Morphological Divergence in Euglossa mixta from Continental and Insular Panama

open access: yesAnimals
Islands provide valuable opportunities to study how isolation affects phenotypic variation. Even though orchid bees are highly mobile, their movement can still be restricted by marine barriers. In this study, we assessed whether insular isolation impacts

Automated Imaging of Cultured Bacteria in Picoliter Droplets by Coherent Anti‐Stokes Raman Scattering and Two‐Photon Excited Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
We present an automated system that combines an image‐based fuzzy logic controller for precise positioning of microfluidic picoliter droplets with nonlinear microscopy, using CARS and TPEF modalities for detailed analysis of droplet composition. Time series and z‐stack images of E. coli, B. subtilis, and M. arborescens were recorded.

A comparative study of alive and dead eleutheroembryo of Beluga (Huso huso) shape (5DPH) using geometric Beluga (Huso huso) shape (5DPH) using geometric

open access: yes‬‭Majallah-i ̒Ilmī-i Shīlāt-i Īrān, 2013
High mortality of beluga prelarvae (Huso huso) occurs in hatcheries and this appears to be linked to various abnormalities. Hence, this study was conducted to compare the body shape of alive and dead beluga prelarvae (5DPH) and to find the patterns of ...

Lions as Bone Accumulators? Exploring Multi‐Predator Contributions to the Olduvai Carnivore Site (OCS) (Tanzania) Through AI and Metric Analyses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lions (Panthera leo) are apex predators with a well‐documented influence on ecological dynamics, yet their potential role as bone‐accumulating agents remains poorly understood and often debated. Previous taphonomic studies have largely attributed bone accumulations in African savannah ecosystems to other carnivores, such as spotted hyenas ...

Digitizing collections to unlock the full potential of palynology: A case study with the Smithsonian palynology collection

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Large palynological collections have been built over decades and contain vital information. However, they are often difficult to access and use effectively. What is the point of having such collections if they are not fully utilizable? To solve this problem, we digitized the Smithsonian palynological collection using both light and confocal microscopy.

Taxonomic signal in the wing cells of Lutzia mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in Thailand: An outline-based geometric morphometric approach

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Veterinary and Animal Research
Recent studies have identified wing cells, a substructure of the wing, as carrying taxonomic signals across various mosquito genera. However, the presence of a taxonomic signal in the wing cells of the genus Lutzia (Diptera: Culicidae) has not yet been ...
