The aim of this article is to provide a simple introduction to Geometric MorphoMetrics (GMM). GMM is the numerical study of the interaction of size and shape with covarying factors in biology. It represents the modern form of morphometrics, a discipline with a century long history, and it includes a variety of methods.

Geometric Morphometric Analysis of Human Footprints
American Journal of Physical Anthropology, 2013We used geometric morphometrics for a detailed analysis of footprint shape in a sample of adult women. The outline of the footprint, including the toes, was represented by a comprehensive set of landmarks and semilandmarks. The first four principal components represented the major axes of variation in foot morphology: low-arched versus high-arched feet,

Form, Function, and Geometric Morphometrics
The Anatomical Record, 2014ABSTRACTGeometric morphometrics (GM) has increasingly become an important tool in assessing and studying shape variation in a wide variety of taxa. While the GM toolkit has unparalleled power to quantify shape, its use in studies of functional morphology have been questioned.

Annual Review of Anthropology, 2007
Morphometrics, the field of biological shape analysis, has undergone major change in recent years. Most of this change has been due to the development and adoption of methods to analyze the Cartesian coordinates of anatomical landmarks. These geometric morphometric (GM) methods focus on the retention of geometric information throughout a study and ...

Geometric morphometrics simplified
Trends in Ecology & Evolution, 2005Although the theory and methods of the relatively new field of geometric morphometrics are becoming well developed (for an overview, see [1]), it has not yet been applied as widely as it could be, owing to the lack of easily accessible introductory guides. This primer, by Miriam Zelditch and colleagues, should make the field more accessible because the

Geometric Morphometrics Applied to Cartography
Revue Internationale de Géomatique, 2023The morphological differences between two geographical maps can be highlighted by a polycentric distance cartogram resulting from a bidimensional regression. Beyond the communicational interest of the transformations thus produced, the method makes it possible to reveal the differences in structure and therefore constitutes a real research tool ...

Measurement error in geometric morphometrics
Development Genes and Evolution, 2016Geometric morphometrics-a set of methods for the statistical analysis of shape once saluted as a revolutionary advancement in the analysis of morphology -is now mature and routinely used in ecology and evolution. However, a factor often disregarded in empirical studies is the presence and the extent of measurement error.

Sex Estimation Using Geometric Morphometrics
Forensic Anthropology, 2021Creating and testing efficient techniques for the sex estimation of modern human skeletal remains has been a significant focus in biological anthropology. It is well established that the innominate, particularly the pubic bone, is a sexually dimorphic part of the human skeleton, but prone to fragmentation. Using modern pubic bones of known age and sex,
