Assessing the severity of diatom deformities using geometric morphometry [PDF]

open access: yesBotany Letters, 2018
Deformities in diatoms are increasingly used as an indicator of toxic stress in freshwaters. However, the percentage of deformities alone often fails at highlighting the magnitude of toxic exposure. An approach combining the assessment of deformities coupled with information on their severity could improve the sensitivity of this biomarker.

Origins of house reinfestation with Triatoma infestans after insecticide spraying in the Argentine Chaco using wing geometric morphometry [PDF]

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2013
Identifying the origins of insect vectors collected after community-wide residual insecticide applications is a relevant challenge in the Gran Chaco region where the main vector of Chagas disease Triatoma infestans usually reinfests human dwellings. Wing

Morphological differentiation between seven Brazilian populations of Haemagogus capricornii and Hg. janthinomys (Diptera: Culicidae) using geometric morphometry of the wings [PDF]

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2019
INTRODUCTION: Haemagogus capricornii and Hg. janthinomys females are considered morphologically indistinguishable. We analyzed morphometric variability between Brazilian populations of these species using wing geometric morphometry.

Implementation of geometric morphometry in the study of shapes of Bronze Age sickles from the Volga-Ural region [PDF]

open access: yesВестник археологии, антропологии и этнографии
This article aims at evaluating the potential of geometric morphometry by means of an example of analysis of shapes of the Bronze Age sickles from the Volga-Ural region, as compared with the traditional morphometric approach.

Geometric morphometrics of rodent sperm head shape. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Mammalian spermatozoa, particularly those of rodent species, are extremely complex cells and differ greatly in form and dimensions. Thus, characterization of sperm size and, particularly, sperm shape represents a major challenge. No consensus exists on a

Morphological characterization of ticks of the genus Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) based on geometric morphometry: the case of the Savannah District in Côte d’Ivoire

open access: yesJournal of Entomological and Acarological Research, 2023
The introduction of the invasive tick Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus in Côte d'Ivoire has led to a change in the population of ticks of the genus Rhipicephalus (Boophilus).

Identification of nurseries areas of juvenile Prochilodus lineatus (Valenciennes, 1836) (Characiformes: Prochilodontidae) by scale and otolith morphometry and microchemistry

open access: yesNeotropical Ichthyology
The streaked prochilod Prochilodus lineatus (Valenciennes) is a commercially freshwater species from South America, distributed in the Plata basin. In the present work the morphometry (circularity, rectangularity, form factor, OL/OW and ellipticity ...

Sexual dimorphism of the Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) in South Korea: Craniodental geometric morphometry. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Vet Med Sci, 2016
Sexual dimorphism of the craniodental morphology of the Eurasian otter in South Korea was studied with geometric morphometrics. 29 adult skulls (15 males and 14 females) were used. Images of the dorsal and ventral view of the cranium and right lateral view of the mandible were taken and then digitized, and measurements were taken on the right side ...

Quantitative Pathology: Historical Background, Clinical Research and Application of Nuclear Morphometry and DNA Image Cytometry [PDF]

open access: yesLibyan Journal of Medicine, 2006
Quantitative analysis of histo- and cytochemical components such as DNA, RNA or chromatin pattern on one hand (cytometry) and the quantitative analysis of geometric non-chemical cell and tissue components (morphometry and sterology) on the other, have ...
