On Pogorelov estimates in optimal transportation and geometric optics

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper, we prove global and interior second derivative estimates of Pogorelov type for certain Monge–Ampère type equations, arising in optimal transportation and geometric optics, under sharp hypotheses.

Trace Nickel Activated Biphasic Core‐CuOii/Shell‐CuOi Secondary Microspheres Enable Room Temperature Parts‐Per‐Trillion‐Level NO2 Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An idea of designing novel sensors is proposed by creating appropriate Schottky barriers and vacancies between isomorphous Core‐CuOii/ Shell‐CuOi secondary microspheres and enhancing catalytic and spill‐over effects, and electronegativity via spontaneous biphasic separation, self‐assembly, and trace‐Ni‐doping.

Lensing Point-spread Function of Coherent Astrophysical Sources and Nontrivial Wave Effects

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Most research on astrophysical lensing has been conducted using the geometric optics framework, where there exists a clear concept of lensing images. However, wave optics effects can be important for coherent sources, e.g., pulsars, fast radio bursts ...

An Inkjet‐Printed Platinum‐Based Temperature Sensing Element on Polyimide Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An inkjet‐printed, meander‐structured, nanoparticle platinum‐based resistive temperature sensors on polyimide substrates are demonstrated as proof‐of‐concept. Optimized sintering at 250°C enables stable conductive structures. The Pt100‐ and Pt1000‐type sensors exhibit linear resistance–temperature characteristics with stable TCR in the 20°C–80°C range,

$\mathcal{PT}$ phase control in circular multicore fibers

open access: yes, 2016
We consider light dynamics in a circular multicore fiber with balanced gain and loss core distribution, and show that transition from unbroken to broken $\mathcal{PT}$ phases can be conveniently controlled by geometric twist of the fiber.

Efficient Process Development for Laser Powder Bed Fusion of a Soft‐Magnetic Metallic Glass Composite

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Iron‐based metallic glass alloys exhibit excellent soft‐magnetic properties, and unprecedented geometrical freedom in the design of soft‐magnetic metallic glass components is made possible by additive manufacturing. An efficient workflow for developing parameters for laser‐based powder bed fusion of a Fe‐based metallic glass alloy is presented along ...

Note on the luminosity distance

open access: yes, 2004
We re-derive a formula relating the areal and luminosity distances, entirely in the framework of the classical Maxwell theory, assuming a geometric-optics type condition.Comment: Section 4 revised, misprints ...

Geometric optics of Bloch waves in a chiral and dissipative medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present a geometric optics theory for the transport of quantum particles (or classical waves) in a chiral and dissipative periodic crystal subject to slowly varying perturbations in space and time.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Analytic Physical Optics Solution to Bistatic 3D Scattering From Separated Dihedral

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Constructing the mapping between the geometric object and its corresponding 3D scattering response is a fundamental but challenging task in the domain of electromagnetic scattering, which is crucial for radar target recognition and the 3D structure ...
