Viscoelastic damping design – Thermal impact on a constrained layer damping treatment
Constrained layer damping treatments have been commonly used for vibration damping. The included viscoelastic material exhibits high damping potential that is retrieved under shear deformation.

Rate Adaptive Autoencoder-based Geometric Constellation Shaping
An autoencoder is used to optimize bit-to-symbol mappings for geometric constellation shaping. The mappings allow for net rate adaptivity without additional hardware complexity, while achieving up to 300km of transmission distance compared to uniform QAM.

Rate-Adaptive Coded Modulation with Geometrically-shaped Constellations [PDF]
Information-theoretic metrics are used to design rate-adaptive coded modulation based on geometrically-shaped constellations with soft- and hard-decision FEC. Numerical results show that an 8% reach extension can be achieved with flexible data rates and transmission distances.

Modern Surfboards and Their Structural Characterization: Towards an Engineering Approach
Recently, manufactures who produce surfboards using computer aided design and robotic (CNC) shaping tools have gained a larger share of the surfing market, allowing board producers and shapers to produce lighter and more durable boards.

Rate adaptive geometric constellation shaping using autoencoders and many-to-one mapping
A many-to-one mapping geometric constellation shaping scheme is proposed with a fixed modulation format, fixed FEC engine and rate adaptation with an arbitrarily small step. An autoencoder is used to optimize the labelings and constellation points' positions.

This work proposes the use of a robust geometrical segmentation algorithm to detect inherent shapes from dense point clouds. The points are first divided into voxels based on their connectivity and normal consistency. Then, the voxels are classified into different types of shapes through a multi-scale prediction algorithm and multiple shapes including ...

Since visible-light communication (VLC) has become an increasingly promising candidate for 6G, the field of underwater visible-light communication (UVLC) has also garnered significant attention. However, the impairments introduced by practical systems and the time-varying underwater channels always limit the performance of underwater visible-light ...

Deriving vocal tract shapes from electromagnetic articulograph data via geometric adaptation and matching [PDF]
In this paper, we present our efforts towards deriving vocal tract shapes from ElectroMagnetic Articulograph data (EMA) via geometric adaptation and matching. We describe a novel approach for adapting Maeda’s geometric model of the vocal tract to one speaker in the MOCHA database. We show how we can rely solely on the EMA data for adaptation.

Tooth Shape Adaptations in Aglyphous Colubrid Snakes Inferred from 3D Geometric Morphometrics and Finite Element Analysis [PDF]
Abstract To date there are few detailed and quantitative studies investigating the evolution of the tooth shape and function in Aglyphous snakes in relation to diet. To study dental adaptations to diet, a lineage that is of particular interest due to its large range of adult body sizes, is the one including dwarfed ...
