Post-Buckling of Geometrically Imperfect Plates

Journal of the Structural Division, 1972
Explicit expressions are derived for the collapse and elastic post-buckling of simply supported, geometrically imperfect plates with stress-free edges. For the purposes of design, such plates can be taken as representative of the stiffened compression elements of thin-walled structural sections.

Measurement of the geometric initial imperfections in diaphragms

Thin-Walled Structures, 1992
Abstract A method, using a new surveying technique, is used for the measurement of the geometric initial imperfections in box girder diaphragms. The method, accurate to ±0·1 mm , may be used on diaphragms contained in a box girder where contact with the surface of the diaphragm is difficult or impossible or inadvisable due to the presence of ...

On the Geometrical Imperfections in Ball Bearings

Journal of Tribology, 1988
Computer simulations of dynamic bearing performance, as obtained by the computer code ADORE, are used to develop correlations between key performance parameters and geometrical imperfections in both oil and solid lubricated ball bearings. The influence of race out-of-roundness, variation in groove curvatures and the variation in ball size, is modeled ...

Deformations of Geometrically Imperfect Beams

Journal of the Structural Division, 1969
The effects of a number of representative types of imperfection on the elastic deformations of simply supported I-beams with either equal end moments or central concentrated load are investigated, and it is shown that each of these imperfections can be approximated by an equivalent sinusoidal initial crookedness or twist.

Optimization of slender structures considering geometrical imperfections

Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering, 2006
In this article, we present an optimization model which incorporates uncertainty induced by geometrical imperfections. Within the model, geometrical imperfections are represented by means of random fields. The induced uncertainties are then treated using the concept of a convex model.

Stability of Euler-Bernoulli Beams with Geometric Imperfection

6th International Students Science Congress Proceedings Book, 2022
In this study, we have focused on slightly curved beams which can be used in various fields such as bridges, sensors, pipes, roofs etc. Beams with curvature can be classified as slightly curved or curved only. In slightly curved beams, curvature and beam’s displacement are considered in the same order.

Geometrical and Structural Imperfections of Steel Member Systems

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2012
AbstractThe paper is focused on the influence of geometrical and structural imperfections in selected load-bearing steel structures from the point of view of the whole load-bearing system. Implemented member steel structures show a varying degree of shape and structural deviations from the presumed idealized state.

The influence of geometrical imperfections in the method of caustics

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1983
Abstract The influence of locally varying specimen thickness on the shape of the shadow spot and, hence, on the stress intensity factor is of first order but for all practical cases comparable with the experimental data scatter.

On geometric reduction of age or intensity models for imperfect maintenance

Reliability Engineering & System Safety, 2017
Abstract There is an extensive literature on imperfect maintenance models. Among them, we have proposed in Doyen and Gaudoin (2004) [13] the classes of ARA and ARI models. These models express the effect of maintenance by an Arithmetic Reduction of Age (for ARA models) and an Arithmetic Reduction of Intensity (for ARI models).
