Geometrical Optics Stability Analysis of Rotating Visco-Diffusive Flows

open access: yesMathematics
Geometrical optics stability analysis has proven effective in deriving analytical instability criteria for 3D flows in ideal hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics, encompassing both compressible and incompressible fluids. The method models perturbations

Mechanical Behavior and Microstructural Changes Associated with Tensile Deformation above the Martensite Start Temperature during Quenching and Subsequent Partitioning of a Low‐Alloy 37SiB6 Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new experimental setup, incorporating digital image correlation and infrared thermography in combination with inductive‐conductive heating for precise temperature control, is used to analyze the mechanical behavior and microstructural changes of sheet metal under complex thermomechanical test conditions that represent quench and partitioning ...

Elliptical generalized Maxwell fish-eye lens using conformal mapping

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2019
A circular graded index lens is conformally transformed to an elliptical shape using a closed-form transformation. The proposed transformation is then employed to compress a Maxwell fish-eye and its generalized version.

Semiclassical superoscillations: interference, evanescence, post-WKB

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2021
The concept of superoscillations is extended beyond bandlimited functions, to include monochromatic waves in space-varying media, such as wavefunctions representing quantum particles in non-constant potentials.

High‐Temperature Oxidation of the CrFeNi Medium‐Entropy Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The oxidation behavior of equiatomic CrFeNi MEA is a key issue that determines this material's suitability for high‐temperature application. The understanding of long‐term behavior is even more crucial than short‐term corrosion effects. The alloy is exposed to synthetic air at 1000, 1050, and 1100 °C for 24, 100, and 1000 h and systematically compared ...

Making geometrical optics exact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Geometrical optics (GO) is widely used in studies of electromagnetic materials because of its ease of use compared to full-wave numerical simulations. Exact solutions for waves can, however, differ significantly from the GO approximation.

Digital polarization holography advancing geometrical phase optics.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2016
Geometrical phase or the fourth generation (4G) optics enables realization of optical components (lenses, prisms, gratings, spiral phase plates, etc.) by patterning the optical axis orientation in the plane of thin anisotropic films.

Mitigation of Cracks in High‐Performance Nickel‐Based Superalloys in Powder Bed Fusion Laser Beam of Metals Using a Metal Matrix Composite Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐performance nickel‐based superalloys are often not processible in additive manufacturing (AM) due to hot cracking. The findings in this manuscript propose an efficient method to mitigate cracking and enhance mechanical properties of these alloys by producing a metal matrix composite, contributing to the material and process perspective of the AM ...
