AbstractFlash floods are a rapid hydrological response that occurs within a short time with rapidly rising water levels and could lead to massive structural, social and economic damages. Therefore, generating flood inundation maps becomes necessary to distinguish areas exposed to floods. Hydrodynamic models are commonly used to generate inundation maps;

Beyond Water: Mapping Sediment Bars to Enhance Satellite Monitoring of River Dynamics
Abstract Unvegetated sediment bars are central to river morphodynamics but are rarely used as indicators of channel dynamicity in satellite‐based studies. Linking sediment dynamics and river lateral mobility requires monitoring sustained changes in both water and sediment—the active channel (AC)—to avoid stage‐dependent noise.

Remote Sensing Sediment–Albedo Feedbacks Affecting Ice Thickness on Taylor Valley Lakes, Antarctica
Abstract The McMurdo Dry Valleys are the largest unglaciated region in Antarctica and home to perennially frozen lakes. Thirty years of ice thickness measurements reveal meter‐scale fluctuations over decadal time scales. In this paper, we hypothesize that changing surface sediment dynamics alter ice albedo, changing the heat balance and thickness of ...

Abstract Many global and regional climate models predict shifts in the frequency and magnitude of precipitation events. It is unclear how this transition will influence delta and wetland development. We address this knowledge gap via two reduced‐scale physical delta experiments: one with constant discharge and the other with variable discharge.

Abstract Bedrock fault scarps and their associated colluvial wedges provide key evidence for reconstructing paleoearthquakes. We apply rock surface luminescence dating to a bedrock scarp on the Huashan fault in central China, using OSL‐depth profiles (DPs) from multiple heights. Results reveal two coseismic displacements of 6.8 and >1.0 m.

Soil Freeze–Thaw Disturbance Index and Its Indicative Significance on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau
The soil freeze–thaw process is a dominant disturbance in the seasonally frozen ground and the active layer of permafrost, which plays a crucial role in the surface energy balance, water cycle, and carbon exchange and has a pronounced influence on ...

Assessment of morphotectonic properties of Mahan Tigrani watershed [PDF]
Tectonic geomorphology can be explained as the study of landforms produced by tectonic processes, or the application of geomorphic principles to the suggestion of tectonic problems. Tigrani's watershed is located in north part of hillside.

Mountain building processes in the Central Andes [PDF]
False color composite images of the Thematic Mapper (TM) bands 5, 4, and 2 were examined to make visual interpretations of geological features. The use of the roam mode of image display with the International Imaging Systems (IIS) System 600 image ...
