Geomorphic feature extraction to support the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative’s sediment budget and Geomorphic Vulnerability Index for Lake Michigan

2023
This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering technical note (CHETN) details a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) methodology to produce advanced lidar-derived datasets for use in a coastal erosion vulnerability analysis conducted by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and other federal partners for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI).

Flood-prone areas delineation in coastal regions using the Geomorphic Flood Index

2021

Detecting areas exposed to flood inundation in coastal zones is of paramount importance for reducing damages and preventing human and economic losses. In general, the Geomorphic Flood Index (GFI) method, based on a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and mostly applied to riverine flood, provides a good representation of flood-prone areas ...

Evaluation of geomorphic expressions of bedrock Channels in the Western Ghats of southern Kerala, India, through quantitative analysis [PDF]

open access: yesArabian Journal of Geosciences, 2016
Geomorphic expressions embedded within the bedrock channels, originating from the southernmost part of the Western Ghats, India, are quantitatively characterized through well-defined geomorphic indices using digital elevation models (DEM) and ...

The relationship between lunar hot spots and the geomorphic index

The Moon, 1970
The previously developed geomorphic index of lunar surfaces is applied to the surface distribution of the lunar hot spots. It was found that the hot spot number density is the highest in areas of intermediate geomorphic index, corresponding to mature maria. Young and old maria and the terrae have fewer hot spots per unit area.

Examining the suitability of the geomorphic parameters in generating the Relative Index of Active Tectonics: an example from Himalayan Frontal Thrust, India

2021

This work emphasizes the efficient use of geomorphic parameters to form a unified index ~ Relative Index of Active Tectonics (RIAT), which has seldom been tested in areas with broader variability in the rate of deformation. This study aims to verify whether the geomorphic parameters can be used efficiently for RIAT to assess the ...

Prediction Equations for Estimating Shear‐Wave Velocity from Combined Geotechnical and Geomorphic Indexes Based on Japanese Data Set

Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2015
© 2015, Seismological Society of America. All rights reserved. We develop empirical predictive equations for shear-wave velocity (V S ) conditional on standard penetration test resistance (N-value) and other explanatory variables using data sets from Japan.
