The status, changes, and disturbances in geomorphological regimes can be regarded as controlling and regulating factors for biodiversity. Therefore, monitoring geomorphology at local, regional, and global scales is not only necessary to conserve ...

Geomorphology of the Kaikoura area [PDF]
The major physiographic units in the Kaikoura area are the Peninsula Block, Beach Ridges and Raised Beaches, Hard Rock Areas and the Alluvial Fans. Erosion of the Seaward Kaikoura Mountains and the transfer of the debris to the sea by fan streams have ...

Particle saltation trajectories in supercritical open channel flows: Roughness effect
This study investigates single particle trajectories in supercritical open channel flows under different hydraulic and roughness conditions. Therefore, it helps to get a better understanding on the mechanics and prediction of bedrock incision and hydro‐abrasion occurring in steep bedrock rivers and hydraulic structures.

The loess provenance areas of the Ebro and Móra basins are mainly the fluvial terraces of the Middle and Lower Ebro River, respectively, according to the analyses of very heavy minerals and particle size. The wind transport distances are relatively short (<100 km).

Assessing the Geomorphological Hazards of the Zonouzchay Catchment [PDF]
Introduction When a natural process threatens human life or property, it is called natural hazard. Disasters’ statistics have shown that their effects are, considerably, increasing all over the world.

The geomorphology, color, and thermal properties of Ryugu: Implications for parent-body processes
Hayabusa2 at the asteroid Ryugu Asteroids fall to Earth in the form of meteorites, but these provide little information about their origins. The Japanese mission Hayabusa2 is designed to collect samples directly from the surface of an asteroid and return

Dynamic bedrock channel width during knickpoint retreat enhances undercutting of coupled hillslopes
The graphical abstract shows images of analogue flume experiments that highlight the width narrowing process during knickpoint retreat, and the cartoon figure shows the response of adjoining hillslopes. Abstract Mountain landscapes respond to transient tectonic and climate forcing through a bottom‐up response of enhanced bedrock river incision that ...

Parabolic dunes in north-eastern Brazil [PDF]
In this work we present measurements of vegetation cover over parabolic dunes with different degree of activation along the north-eastern Brazilian coast. We are able to extend the local values of the vegetation cover density to the whole dune by correlating measurements with the gray-scale levels of a high resolution satellite image of the dune field.

SummaryThe rapidly growing amount and diversity of data are confronting us more than ever with the need to make informed predictions under uncertainty. The adverse impacts of climate change and natural hazards also motivate our search for reliable predictions.
