The main Geomorphosites in Umbria.
The Region of Umbria region is characterised by highly different geological and geomorphological environments, giving the territory a “geomorphodiversity” as well as considerable variability among its ecosystems. The identification of potential geomorphosites is interesting, and is aimed not only at protecting them, but also at an appropriate ...

Geomorphosites and the history of geomorphology
Geomorphosites are geosites of geomorphological significance, with a now well admitted distinction between central or scientific values on the one hand, and additional values such as ecological, economical or aesthetical values on the other hand. Among the scientific values, some are directly linked to the climatic forcings through geomorphological ...

Geomorphosites in Trentino: a first census
In the research project co-financed by MIUR COFIN 2001 “Geosites in the Italian landscape: research, evaluation and exploitation”, a first census was made of the geomorphosites in Trentino. The identification criteria were those already well established at a national and international level.

Using Terrestrial Laser Scanning for the Recognition and Promotion of High-Alpine Geomorphosites
International audienceHigh-alpine geomorphosites are poorly understood and developed, mostly because of the heavy constraints of high mountain areas. Meanwhile, they are geoheritage areas that are often extremely vulnerable to global warming: glaciers ...

Geomorphosites: Function and Geoheritage Preservation in Belgium
2017This chapter opens with stressing the need for geomorphosite recognition, and situating the concept of geomorphosite in the broader context of geosites and the relations between geodiversity and biodiversity. Then, after mentioning the measures taken at the national level, notably with the creation in 1835 of the Royal Commission for Monuments, whose ...

Geografia Fisica e Dinamica Quaternaria, 2013
During the last two decades a renewed interest emerged in the scientific community for geoheritage, geoconservation and geotourism research. This was the reason for the International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG) for creating a specific working group (WG) on geomorphosites, that is the geomorphological part of geoheritage, in 2001.

Landforms and Geomorphosite Designation on Mount Gausta (Telemark)
2020Mount Gausta is the highest point in Telemark. It stands above a vast plateau lying at 1000 m or so in altitude (a fjell), where the large Vestfjorddalen valley is entrenched. There are two parts to it, with a pyramid peaking at 1881 m to the north (Gaustatoppen), and a long plateau at between 1500 and 1600 m (Gaustaraen).

Geoheritage, Geoconservation, Geomorphosites in Hungary
2015In addition to geological sites of scientific interest, which appear on the list of key sections compiled by experts of the Hungarian Geological Institute, geomorphosites constitute an important group of protected earth sciences spots. In Hungary the Act on Nature Conservation of 1996 ensures the protection of objects of scientific, cultural, aesthetic,
