Non-diffusive, non-local transport in fluids and plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesNonlinear Processes in Geophysics, 2010
A review of non-diffusive transport in fluids and plasmas is presented. In the fluid context, non-diffusive chaotic transport by Rossby waves in zonal flows is studied following a Lagrangian approach. In the plasma physics context the problem of interest

Microbially generated ferruginous crusts: A potential biosignature of continental input in coastal settings

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Thin ferruginous sandy crusts are common on top of sandstone beds in the Early Permian post‐glacial deposits of the Paraná Basin in southern Brazil. These crusts usually preserve wrinkle structures, suggesting that they might be a product of microbial mediation.

Modular Cosmic Ray Detector (MCORD) and its Potential Use in Various Physics Experiments, Astrophysics and Geophysics

open access: yes
As part of the collaboration building a set of detectors for the new collider, our group was tasked with designing and building a large-scale cosmic ray detector, which was to complement the capabilities of the MPD (Dubna) detec-tor set. The detector was planned as a trigger for cosmic ray particles and to be used to calibrate and test other systems ...

Meteor head echo polarization at 930 MHz studied with the EISCAT UHF HPLA radar [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2011
The polarization characteristics of 930-MHz meteor head echoes have been studied for the first time, using data obtained in a series of radar measurements carried out with the tristatic EISCAT UHF high power, large aperture (HPLA) radar system in ...

Ex-nihilo II: Examination Syllabi and the Sequencing of Cosmology Education

open access: yes, 2003
Cosmology education has become an integral part of modern physics courses. Directed by National Curricula, major UK examination boards have developed syllabi that contain explicit statements about the model of the Big Bang and the strong observational ...

MHD waves generated by high-frequency photospheric vortex motions [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2011
In this paper, we discuss simulations of MHD wave generation and propagation through a three-dimensional open magnetic flux tube in the lower solar atmosphere.

The Effect of Clouds on Air Showers Observation from Space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Issues relating to extensive air showers observation by a space-borne fluorescence detector and the effects of clouds on the observations are investigated using Monte Carlo simulation.

Terrestrial Analogs to Titan for Geophysical Research

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 64, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract Saturn's moon Titan exhibits remarkable parallels to the Earth in many geophysical and geological processes not found elsewhere in the solar system at the present day. These include a nitrogen atmosphere with a condensible gas—methane—replacing the Earth's water, leading to an active meteorology with rainfall and surface manifestations ...

Attributing Upper‐Tropospheric Warm Biases in CMIP6 Models to Ice Cloud‐Radiation Interaction Deficiencies Over Tropical Oceans

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract We assess the impact of hydrometeor radiative effects on tropical and subtropical Pacific air temperature anomalies (TAA) using Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) model simulations and satellite data. CMIP6 models are grouped by their treatment of frozen hydrometeors: SON2 (explicit cloud and falling ice), SON1 (simplified),
